Customs and Compliance Operations Manager

ROLE SUMMARY

The role is responsible for managing and executing APAC import and export activities, with a primary focus on Vietnam while providing essential support to other APAC countries’ operational issues and projects as needed.

The role ensures that all shipments comply with regional customs legislation and Pfizer’s Global Trade Policy. This includes preparing and validating customs documentation, coordinating with customs brokers and freight forwarders, resolving declaration issues, supporting both import and export processes and manages customs audits to mitigate risks. 

• Ensure accurate and compliant customs declarations for APAC imports and exports including Vietnam imports/exports. Leads the end‑to‑end accuracy of import / export documentation, validates customs declaration inputs, resolves discrepancies with brokers, and ensures timely submission, to prevent regulatory violations and shipment delays.

• Takes legal accountability for signing import documents and ensuring completeness and correctness before submission, exercising high responsibility and risk assessment to avoid non-compliance and penalties.

• Monitor customs broker performance through metrics reporting and trend analysis. Take corrective actions to address compliance gaps with customs brokers to maintain import & export compliance standards.

• Performs independent assessment of completed shipments, review/create SOPs or Work Instructions, detects irregularities using GTS-Fiori and shipping documents reviews. Determines customs risk mitigation steps and continuous compliance improvement.

• Monitors new customs regulations and assess regulatory impact on business operation. Collaborate with stakeholders to interpret and implement required process changes to ensure smooth import/export process.

• Support customs audits with accurate, timely documentation and explanations to defend Pfizer’s compliance practices.

• Manage stakeholder communications and resolve escalations. Communicate delays, disruptions, and compliance concerns while coordinating solutions with cross-functional teams.

• Manage complex customs issues independently and drive solutions to the problems with Stakeholders and cross-functional teams.

Job requirements

• Minimum 8 years’ relevant work experience

• Strong Customs Compliance knowledge, Customs practices and import/export compliance requirements including Vietnam Customs practices.

• Proficient in English (both verbal communication and writing) and Vietnamese, other languages are a benefit.

• Supply Chain and Logistics experience

• Knowledge with SAP/GTS preferable

• Pharmaceutical / Life Science Industry preferable
