Buller District Council | Reefton, New Zealand
Fixed Term, 6 months | Part-time | 15 Hours per week, rostered Monday - Sunday

Are you a friendly, community‑minded person who enjoys helping others and creating positive experiences? The Buller District Council is seeking a Customer Services Officer to join our Reefton team on a six‑month fixed‑term contract.

What Will You Do? | Ka aha koe?
Key responsibilities will include:
Deliver exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
Provide accurate, up-to-date information for all onsite services.
Respond to enquiries in person, by phone, and via email with clarity, patience, and professionalism.
Support Council administrative processes including dog registrations, rates and debtor enquiries, service requests and library services.
Perform cashiering duties including receipting payments and balancing tills.
Share local knowledge with visitors and promote Reefton’s attractions and activities.
Assist with general cleaning and facility upkeep as required.

We are looking for someone with:
Essential:
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong customer service skills with a friendly, helpful, and patient approach.
Ability to explain information clearly and simply.
Confidence in handling enquiries, including challenging or high‑demand situations.
Ability to listen, clarify needs, and resolve issues effectively.
Reliability, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
Desirable:
Experience in customer-facing roles, administration, or local government.
Conflict resolution skills and confidence managing difficult interactions.
Knowledge of the Buller region and local attractions.
