About the Office

The Office of the Fulton County Clerk of Superior and Magistrate Courts serve the citizens of Fulton County by maintaining and providing access to court and public records and by supporting court operations across Superior and Magistrate Courts. The office plays a critical role in the administration of justice and public trust, supporting judges, justice partners, attorneys, and the public through accurate recordkeeping, responsive service, and operational excellence.

Position Summary

Manages multiple units or a division within the Fulton County court system and is responsible for the operations and staff of an assigned area. Oversees court programs, document processing and recording, indexing, filings and/or fee collection, general administration, and other court related activities as required or assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Advises the general public, attorneys, and court staff of departmental guidelines and serve as a liaison to other agencies. Ensures subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete departmental policies and procedures related to records management, court processes, and court-related business. Facilitates and implements employee training and development. 

Compiles statistical data and creates related reports.  Implements changes in court processes in keeping with regulatory or law changes.  Oversees courtroom support.  May coordinate and supervise special court programs.  Supervises assigned staff, including daily assignment.  Provides technical support when needed. Interprets and enforces establishing workloads, prioritizing work assignments, evaluating performance, interpreting and enforcing policies and procedures, resolving issues, making hiring or termination recommendations, and administering disciplinary action as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, criminal justice, political science/international relations or a related field.

One (1) year of experience in a court system or legal field, including 1 year of supervisory or management experience.

Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required: Affirmation as a sworn Deputy Clerk of the Court.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Requires knowledge of Principles and practices of business and/or public administration. Laws, rules, and regulations governing maintenance of records and documents. Principles and practices of records management, including system design, administration, and operations. Techniques used to conduct legal research and/or statistical analysis and to locate records and documents. Digital records/image management technology and terminology. Correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.  General office practices, procedures, equipment, and technology. Requires skill in organizing and prioritizing work.

 

Using proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Conducting research, performing statistical and other analysis, and making recommendations. Delivering high quality, customer-focused service. Resolving problems and making decisions. Interpreting and enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Conducting legal research and locating file records. Maintaining security of records and file documents. Creating and managing records management systems. Verifying and correcting filing data and records. Implementing, interpreting, and explaining records procedures Using spreadsheet, database, word processing, presentation, financial/accounting and other software to gather, organize, analyze, and present information. Understanding, using, and explaining Court-specific computer applications to manage court processes, gather and analyze statistics, and create reports. Building sustainable working relationships with other County personnel, officials, and the public. Communicating effectively with coworkers, supervisor, and the public. Generating enthusiasm and support for program objective.

Physical Requirements:

Work is typically performed in an office-like environment. May work in high conflict situations and with difficult, sometimes dangerous parties.  Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing, sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, fingering, lifting, and carrying. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
