Background: McGill’s School of Social Work has entered into an agreement with the Cree School Board to deliver an online Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) pilot program in Eeyou Istchee. The School of Social Work is seeking a Course Developer – Curriculum to develop and adapt a course to an online format, specifically adapted to Indigenous realities (Cree specific is ideal) and working closely with Director, Indigenous Access McGill and the McGill Online Instructional Design team.

Position summary: Working from an existing outline, your responsibilities will include reviewing and developing content i.e. lectures, student activities and course materials, for a social work course entitled Approaches to Community Practice. The aim of the course is to provide students with an understanding of how to engage, assess, mobilize, and advocate to contribute to social change in communities.

You will collaborate with the Director, Indigenous Access McGill and an online instructional designer to review the materials developed and discuss best online practices for course delivery. The curriculum for this course must be adapted to include Indigenous Peoples' realities with a particular emphasis on Cree cultural ways of knowing, doing and being.

This is a short-term, part-time contract of 50 - 75 hours.

Qualifications:

• Master degree in Social Work or equivalent
• Demonstrated practical application of, and/or teaching experience in, the following areas:• Models of community practice, including community approaches from historical, ideological and practical perspectives
• Analysis of current community social work practice and social problems as well as opportunities for social change.
• Similarities and differences between community and clinical practice, and opportunities for partnerships.
• Practical skills utilized in a variety of community practice settings.
• The integration of individual and collective empowerment skills.
• The development of community interventions.

·Awareness of culturally relevant resources for Indigenous Peoples

·Relationship building with Indigenous Peoples

·A strong commitment to advancing the calls for reconciliation through education. This includes recognizing the importance of decolonizing education and providing opportunities for Indigenous self-determination.

·Experience in Indigenous curriculum development at the post-secondary level
