The Dialogue McGill project, funded by Health Canada since 2004 under the Official Languages Health Program, is focused on initiatives to build and maintain the capacity of bilingual health and social services professionals in Quebec to improve health care access for Canadian official language minority communities.

Course monitors provide guidance and support to a group of second language learners enrolled in the English workshops for healthcare and social services professionals and intake staff. The position requires a commitment of 50 to 100 hours over the course of a 10-week session and must be available for at least one evening per week to answer student calls and emails.

Main responsibilities:

• Monitors learners’ progress and encourage student participation by creating a dynamic, positive and memorable experience
• Answers emails from learners with a delay of no more than 24 hours
• Adjusts language usage to suit learners’ level of understanding
• Refers learners to appropriate resources for technical support, language development, etc.
• Sends friendly module reminder emails
• Helps learners with access to workshop components (e.g., finding documents, understanding instructions, etc.)
• Highlights important due dates, events, etc.
• Motivates learners to complete lessons, modules, quizzes
• Provides feedback (simple suggestions and guidance) on the proper way to say something
• Redirects learners to ask for more elaborate feedback & practice from instructor in the English Conversation workshop
• Communicates with the instructor as required about student progress
• Clarifies the differences between the English Online workshop & the English Conversation workshop if needed
• Creates a no-show list of students who have not accessed the online platform
• Checks grade book for completed and uncompleted quizzes and follow up as needed
• Reports cases of learners’ requesting extensions to the academic leadership team
• Attends a training session as well as briefing/debriefing meetings with the project’s academic leadership team.
• Performs various administrative duties as and when needed.

Qualifications:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English
• High competency with Zoom and online learning platforms
• At least six months of experience working in a higher education setting
• Strong preference for candidates who have provided online assistance to adult learners

Hourly rate: 18.50$/h

Time commitment: 50 -100 hours for a 10-week workshop session.

Schedule : SPRING semester: April 13, 2026 – July 3, 2026
