Course Title and Number:
EDTL 640-002 - Teacher Inquiry and Action Research
Furthers students' understanding of teacher inquiry and action research. Students will make connections between their theoretical understandings of research and their own emergence as practitioner researchers in educational settings. Topics include: writing a focused literature review; collaborative and spectator forms of research; ways to identify problems to investigate; data collection and analysis; reflexive praxis; and ways to draw conclusions from research. The major assignment for the course will be the completion of the final written MATL capstone project or equivalent.

Teaching Qualification Requirements:
Education
• PhD (in exceptional cases, PhD candidates and master teachers with an MA with extensive relevant experience will be considered).
Experience
• Advanced knowledge of, and experience with using educational research methods including action research, autoethnography, and self-study.
• Previous successful experience with securing research ethics clearance for qualitative research.
• Knowledge of the Quebec Education Program (QEP).
• Familiarity with the professional competencies specified by the Ministère de l’Éducation.
• Previous successful experience supervising and assessing graduate level student projects or theses is an asset.
• Familiarity with myCourses or similar online course platform(s).
• Familiarity with the online meeting platforms, e.g. ZOOM, MS Teams, WebX.
• Familiarity with teaching blended classes.
• Familiarity with MATL Capstone Research Project (CRP) is an asset.
• Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) at the graduate level is an asset.
Other
• Must be available to attend course and program coordination and planning meetings in advance of course start date.
• Responsibilities include: Support for planning and CRPs and securing research ethics clearance where needed; guidance on research method selection and study design; support to peer learning groups during research and writing stages; guidance on mechanics of academic writing.
Other information
Responsible for reading and providing feedback on Capstone Research Projects.
This course may be subject to a co-teaching assignment resulting in a reduction of credits (and hours) assigned to each instructor.
