Course Number-Section and Title: EDEE 253 714 - Kindergarten Classroom Pedagogy

Course Description: Elementary Education: An orientation to the Kindergarten curriculum. Integration of the school subject areas (language arts, second language, mathematics, social sciences, science, expressive arts, moral and religious education, and physical education) in a manner appropriate to the developmental level of the pre-school child.

Travel, taxi/mileage, accommodation and per diems are covered from Montreal by the Office for instructors who require it.

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs):

Education

• A Master’s degree (in exceptional circumstances applicants without a Master’s degree but with significant research or professional experience related to the course content may be considered).

Experience

• Expert knowledge of course content as outlined in the course description.
• Knowledge of the Quebec Education program (QEP) and the curriculum of the partnering school board with whom this course is being giving in collaboration.
• Familiarity with the 13 professional competencies specified in the Ministère de l’Éducation
• Knowledge of the impact of colonialism on Indigenous communities and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion.
• Experience as a teacher,  administrator, and/or consultant in the partnering school board for which this course is being delivered.
• Experience teaching in the Quebec elementary school system.
• Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) to pre-service teachers.
• Previous successful experience teaching similar courses in Indigenous communities.
• Experience developing curriculum, instructional approaches and/or policy grounded in Indigenous knowledge and pedagogies.

Other

• Adherence to evolving program requirements concerning course content and program-developed competencies; course content and references must reflect the most current advances in the field.
•  The course instructor is expected to demonstrate capacity and willingness to modify the course to the educational, social, and cultural context of the community in which it is being delivered.
•  Availability to participate in course coordination and planning activities prior to the course start date (approximately two weeks in advance; online format).
• Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience with Indigenous issues in First Nations and Inuit contexts, for example through prior teaching, community engagement, or relevant academic or professional work.
