About the Role: Charles Sturt University Sydney is seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Course Coordinator for the Master of Social Work (Professional Qualifying) to contribute to the ongoing academic excellence and growth of this postgraduate course. In this pivotal role, you will inspire and educate the next generation of social work professionals by delivering high-quality teaching and providing strong academic leadership and support to students. You will play a key role in fostering student development, ensuring a positive and engaging learning experience throughout the course. Working collaboratively within a diverse and inclusive academic environment, you will contribute to shaping the future of social work education while supporting curriculum delivery and continuous improvement. This is a face-to-face teaching position based at Sydney campus.
Key Responsibilities:
• Create and maintain an inclusive and diverse learning environment where all students feel supported, engaged, and valued.
• Deliver high-quality, student-centred teaching across the Master of Social Work (Professional Qualifying), using a range of approaches including presentations, tutorials, group activities, and assessments.
• Reflect on teaching practices and incorporate student and peer feedback to continuously enhance learning and teaching effectiveness.
• Support and manage the delivery of work placement subjects, ensuring alignment with course requirements and student needs.
• Provide academic guidance, mentorship, and ongoing support to students, including advice on study skills and academic success strategies.
• Assess student work accurately and fairly, undertake marking and grading responsibilities, provide timely feedback, and maintain accurate academic records, including student study plans and progress monitoring.
• Engage in scholarly activities in line with the CSU Scholarly Activity Framework, integrating contemporary knowledge into teaching and sharing best practices with colleagues across Social Work and related disciplines.
• Manage and support teaching staff, ensuring subject delivery and offerings meet CSU and Navitas requirements.
• Recruit and provide induction to new teaching staff in social work.
• Participate in professional development activities, maintain a commitment to continuous improvement, and stay informed of current trends and developments in the Social Work field.
Qualifications and selection criteria
• A PhD in Social Work or a related field, with eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and demonstrated teaching experience in Social Work at the university level.
• A minimum of five years (FTE) post-qualifying experience in social work practice, with the ability to integrate professional expertise into teaching and learning.
• Proven ability to design, deliver, and assess student learning effectively, with a strong commitment to high-quality, student-centred teaching practices.
• Demonstrated ability to lead within a complex academic environment, with the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively, and a track record of contributing to positive academic outcomes.
• Experience working in diverse and inclusive environments, with a strong understanding of and commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
• Comprehensive understanding of Social Work concepts, principles, emerging trends, and relevant practices, along with awareness of best practices in inclusive learning environments.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with strong classroom management and problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to engage effectively with students, colleagues, and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated experience of teaching staff recruitment and management
• Evidence of engagement in scholarly activities or advanced professional practice, membership of relevant scholarly or professional organisations, and familiarity with curriculum development and contemporary teaching methods.
