Spiecapag Australia has been delivering large-scale pipeline infrastructure, trenchless construction and drilling projects across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region for more than 20 years. With continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Cost Controller to support project cost control, reporting and contracts administration across our project portfolio.
About this role
This project-based role will commence in our Brisbane office before transitioning to site-based assignments. Depending on project requirements, this may involve FIFO or DIDO arrangements.
Responsibilities
Control and report project costs, ensuring all labour, plant/equipment, materials, suppliers and subcontractor costs are captured and allocated correctly in the cost control system/ERP.
Lead month-end processes including forecasting, accruals, spent-hours tracking and cost-to-complete (first-principles/earned value as required).
Prepare timely internal/external cost reports with analysis and commentary for the project team and senior management.
Partner with Finance and the commercial team to maintain data integrity, manage commercial risk and implement cost control improvements/opportunities.
Support RFQs and procurement by issuing packages, analysing bids and providing commercial recommendations for supplier/subcontractor awards.
Maintain subcontract/supplier registers and commercial documentation; verify invoices against purchase/contract orders and support package close-out (including final accounts/deeds as required).
Prepare and administer progress claims and variations for head contract and subcontracts, ensuring compliance with Security of Payment/BIF requirements and supporting contractual correspondence.
Track and forecast project cash flow and advise the team on actions to improve cash position.
Collate and submit progress claims and follow up payments.
About you
Degree-qualified in Business, Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 5 years’ project financial/cost control experience, with exposure to at least two major projects in a project environment.
Comfortable working in a FIFO project environment and transitioning between office and site as required.
Advanced MS Excel skills and exposure to Sage X3 ERP (or similar).
Good understanding of project scheduling and how schedule drives cost and reporting.
Strong communication skills (written and verbal), with confidence supporting negotiation and change/variation processes.
Highly numerate and detail-oriented, able to spot trends and identify reporting errors quickly.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on accurate, timely reporting.
