The Opportunity
The Ottawa Senators are seeking an energetic, detail-oriented professional to join our Finance team as a Coordinator, Payroll & Benefits. This is an excellent opportunity to join an NHL franchise at an entry level position which will allow the candidate to become fully engaged in the business of a major league sports team.
Reporting to the Manager, Payroll & Benefits, with dotted line reporting to HR, you will be working as a dedicated member of the Payroll team. In this newly created role, you will focus on payroll processing and coordination of benefits, ensuring accurate and timely pay for our team members across Canada and the U.S. The successful candidate will become proficient in payroll systems and compliance, and all aspects of employee benefits..

Key Responsibilities
Main point of contact for benefits related matters for all employees
Manage the full cycle of benefits portal updates for new hires and departing employees with support from Human Resources team
Assist employees with enrolling in retirement savings plans,
Processing employee life events and status changes promptly
Managing relationships with third-party vendors for billing and issue resolution
Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely
Reviews hours reports, prepares discrepancy reports, and verifies that all hours and other data have been accurately input. Downloads the information for payroll processing weekly
Prepares a variety of reports for Manager to aid in the tracking of and verification of pay
Assists in the resolution of pay discrepancies
Reconcile payroll before transmission and validate confirmed reports
Understand proper withholding tax on different types of payments
Execute time and attendance processing and interface with payroll
Process accurate and timely year-end reporting when necessary
Develop ad hoc financial and operational reporting as needed
Qualifications (what we look for)
Post-secondary education in a related field
Experience with Dayforce and ADP is a strong asset
Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills
1-2 years of experience processing Canadian payroll, experience processing US payroll is a strong asset
1-2 years of benefits administration experience (health, dental, pension, etc.)
Working knowledge of Time and Attendance systems
Strong knowledge of government regulations and ESA
Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material
Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
High attention to detail; strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
Advanced Excel, excellent computer skills
Canadian Payroll Association designation preferred

This role falls within a base salary range of $52,200 to $80,000 annually, consistent with the organization’s established salary ranges. Salary ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to market data, internal equity, education, relevant experience, knowledge, and applicable skillset.
