The Cook Leaders prepares food in accordance with current standards, guidelines, anc regulations with United Church of Christ Homes' established policies and procedures to assure that quality dining service is provided.
Cook Duties:
Is replacement for full-time cook when she/he is off;
Ensuring all menus are maintained and filed in accordance with established policies; review menus prior to food preparation;
Preparing palatable and aesthetically appetizing meals;
Preparing and serving substitute foods to residents, as needed;
Assisting in establishing food service production line to ensure meals are prepared on time;
Ensuring correct diet is served to appropriate residents and process diet changes and new diets as received from Nursing;
Assisting in inventorying and storing incoming food, supplies, etc.;
Assisting in food preparation for special meals, parties, etc.;
Assisting and directing daily scheduled cleaning duties in accordance with procedures;
Maintaining food storage areas in clean, properly arranged manner;
Disposing of food and waste in accordance with policies;
Maintaining a safe work environment for residents and staff;
Directing day-to-day functions of employees for whom you have responsibility;
Providing leadership and guidance to employees for whom you are responsible.
Prep Aide Duties:
Clean, peel, cut, chop, and perform other duties to prepare food to be cooked later in the week;
Assist in preparation of soups, salads, desserts, etc.
Working Conditions:
Works in office are and throughout resident areas;
Subject to frequent interruptions
Subject to hostile and emotionally upset people
Works beyond normal working hours when necessary
Subject to injury from falls, burns, odors, etc throughout the work day
Experience:
One year dietary experience in a hospital, skilled nursing care facility, or other related medical facility preferred.
Requirements:
Must be able to cook a variety of foods in large quantities;
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public;
Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel;
Must be able to summarize and relate information concerning a resident's condition;
Must possess the ability/willingness to learn basic computer skills;
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday;
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language;
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position;
Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can
be fully met;
Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a medical and physical examination;
Must be able to relate to and work with persons who exhibit emotional instability, confusion, or at times, hostility;
Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 3 feet and be able to carry such weight a minimum distance of 25 feet; using a mechanical device, must regularly be able to push, pull, or move weight in excess of 100 pounds a distance of 300 feet; and,
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
