Position Summary:
The primary function of this position is food services. This position will ensure that food is properly handled, prepared, distributed and stored in accordance with the Canada Food Guide and the Middlesex London Health Unit. The cook is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the kitchen and staff lounge. This position reports to the Manager of Facilities.
Job Duties:
Prepare meal plans and menus in accordance with the Canada Food Guide
Prepares special dietary food for clients, as required
Prepare, portion and distribute food to the live-in (cottages) and school programs
Prepare food catering requests
Prepare staff soup and salads twice a week (Tuesday/Thursday)
Support special agency events/celebrations throughout the year
Meal counts
Maintain inventory of kitchen, stock room, pantry and live-in cottages
Food orders (internal/external); receive deliveries
Record temperature readings to ensure food safety
Ensure cleanliness and hygiene is maintained in the various kitchen areas including refrigerators and storerooms and that food products are rotated to ensure high standards of freshness. Ensure refrigerators and storerooms are organized and maintained in the various kitchen areas on a daily basis and that all food products are stored in accordance with provincial regulations.
Defrost freezer, as necessary
Cleans kitchen surfaces, appliances, cutting boards etc. with a sterilizing solution
Dispose of garbage
Other duties as assigned
Working Conditions
Wear a uniform
Exposure to hazardous situations and conditions that produce cuts or minor burns.
Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, such as when working near ovens or retrieving food from freezers.
Works physically near others.
Education
Ontario Secondary School Diploma supplemented by certificate of completion of a training program in food services or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Safe Food Handlers Certification
Experience
Two years food service experience
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Hours of Work
17.5 hours work week, 5 days a week Monday to Friday. One year contract position.
Salary:
$19.68 – $22.12/hour
