About this role:

We are seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated, and experienced Controller to join our Finance team. This role is responsible for overseeing the accounting system and financial records, maintaining accurate accounting schedules, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards, and supporting tax filings and audits.

The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, with particular expertise in software revenue recognition. You possess strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with team members as well as internal and external stakeholders.

This position reports directly to the CFO and manages two direct reports: a Senior Accountant and an Accountant.

What will you be doing as a Controller at SimSpace?

• Own the monthly close process in NetSuite

• Review monthly journal entries for revenue, expense, and balance sheet accounts

• Review offline close schedules in Excel

• Review the account reconciliation and make adjustments as necessary

• Ensure financial statement accuracy

• Oversee AR and AP to ensure payables and invoices are handled in a timely manner

• Ensure relevant activity is properly captured in NetSuite

• Support annual corporate tax filings

• Complete monthly and quarterly sales tax filings

• Support annual audit

• Manage the Costa Rica accounting outsourced operations

• Interact with external technical accounting advisors, tax team, and auditors

• Support and implement process improvement and automation projects

• Work with leadership to establish and implement internal controls

What are the qualifications to apply? To be successful as a Controller you need:

• Minimum of 12 years accounting experience; software industry experience is required

• Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and/or CPA is a plus

• Strong knowledge of US GAAP; exposure to multi-national corporations a plus

• Proficiency in NetSuite required

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

• Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders

• Effective time management skills

• Location: in order of preference: Orlando, Florida; Boston, MA; or remote
