MAC Mechanical is now hiring a hands-on Controller ready to take full ownership of our financial operations. We are a growing mechanical contracting firm specializing in delivering high-quality mechanical and HVAC services.
This role is specifically for candidates with construction or job costing experience. Only applicants with this background will be considered
This is not a corporate accounting role. We need someone who understands how financials connect to jobs, crews, and jobsite operations and can work directly with Project Managers to improve job performance and visibility.

Key Responsibilities
Job Costing & Project Financials (Primary Focus)
Ensure accurate job cost tracking (labor, materials, subcontractors)
Partner with Project Managers to review job performance
Identify cost overruns and margin fade early
Support and improve WIP (Work-in-Progress) reporting
Financial Reporting & Close
Own monthly financials (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
Lead month-end close (accurate and on time)
Maintain integrity of all financial data
Billing, AR & Cash Flow
Oversee progress billing and T&M invoicing
Manage AR and collections
Provide clear visibility into cash flow
Improve billing processes and timelines
AP, Payroll & Cost Control
Ensure accurate cost coding of invoices
Oversee payables and vendor management
Support payroll and proper labor cost allocation
Process & Systems Improvement
Clean up and standardize accounting workflows
Improve job costing accuracy and consistency
Optimize accounting and job costing systems
Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of accounting, job costing, and payroll experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, and formulas
Proficiency in QuickBooks for accounting, billing and financial reporting with experience integrating data
Strong understanding of financial statements
Hands-on approach with active involvement in supporting HVAC and plumbing operations
Mechanical / HVAC / trade contractor experience preferred
WIP (Work-in-Progress) reporting knowledge
Experience improving accounting systems or processes
Must successfully complete a background check and drug screen.
