Position Description
The Controller will oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the business and be responsible for leading the accounting and office support teams, ensuring smooth business operations from an accounting and office support standpoint, removing roadblocks, and supporting strategic business decisions. The Controller will be a member of the Leadership team and report to the CFO.

Key Responsibilities
Accounting and Tax
Review month-end financial statements and analysis for Cedarglen Homes, including other related/subsidiary entities
Preparation of complex accruals for month-end statements
Responsible for complex accounting and tax matters, through consultation with the CFO and external tax support
Coordination and review with external parties for year-end tax filings, including internal approvals
Responsible for audited financial statements, coordinated/led by the Senior Accountant with external auditors
Formalize accounting procedures and policies
Coordination with legal counsel on completion of resolutions and legal documentation as required.
Financial Analysis and Budgeting
Month-end Margin analysis
Preparation of year-end budget with the Senior Accountant
Analysis of quarterly industry benchmarking results
Support CFO in cash flow forecasting and interactions with financial institutions
Monitor and ensure compliance with financial covenants
Business Systems
Addressing FAST accounting system issues if escalated
and on-going accountability for the new system
Coordination and Implementation of various new proprietary ERP systems
Ensuring integrity and implementation of new accounting reports
Other Responsibilities
Review of annual insurance renewals
Coordination of legal document execution
Consult and support in creating legal structures and other legal matters.
Support the accounting team as it relates to issues with closings and conveyancing
Identifying business risks to the CFO and the leadership team
Most importantly is the removal of roadblocks and supporting the accounting and office support teams to ensure their day-to-day operations run smoothly
Qualifications
CPA designation, strong preference for public practice experience.
10+ years of progressive accounting experience
5+ years of management/leadership experience
Experience in construction or real estate industry is an asset
Accounting experience with differing types of entities; including corporations, joint ventures and partnerships
