About the role:

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated professional to join a funded start-up within the Financial Times. You will be a member of a fast-growing consulting business, operating within the strength and credibility of an established global institution.

This is a rare opportunity to help shape a new venture from the ground up—playing a central role in scaling the business, defining its strategy, and influencing its long-term success.

You will work closely with senior leaders at media organisations navigating a period of rapid reinvention. Through data-driven insights and strategic advisory, you will help clients develop and execute digital strategies that transform their businesses, with broader implications for the global media industry.

Key Responsibilities

Client Delivery & Strategic Advisory


Lead and contribute to high-impact consulting engagements for media organisations, supporting them on digital transformation, growth strategy, and commercial performance.


Apply hypothesis-driven problem solving to tackle complex strategic challenges and develop actionable, evidence-based recommendations.


Build financial and operational models, analyse large and complex datasets, and translate insights into clear, compelling narratives and visualisations.


Produce high-quality client deliverables, including presentations, reports, and digital outputs, to a consulting-grade standard.

Relationship Management & Commercial Impact


Build, maintain, and grow trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders.


Act as a primary point of contact for clients, responding to ad-hoc requests and ensuring consistently high service quality.


Collaborate closely with experts across the FT Group to bring the best thinking, data, and insight to client engagements.


Contribute to commercial development activities, including identifying opportunities for follow-on work and supporting proposals and pitches.

Strategic Leadership & Business Building


Play an active role in shaping the strategy, offerings, and operating model of a growing consulting business.


Bring a strong bias to action—balancing strategic thinking with hands-on delivery in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.


Help define best practices, tools, and ways of working as the team scales.

People & Project Management


Manage multiple workstreams and projects concurrently, ensuring delivery against timelines and quality standards.


Delegate effectively to junior team members, internal FT experts, and external freelancers.


Mentor, coach, and support the development of more junior colleagues, fostering a high-performance and collaborative team culture.

Thought Leadership & Expertise


Develop and demonstrate deep expertise in media, digital strategy, and business transformation.


Challenge and elevate the team’s thinking to deliver best-in-class insights and solutions.


Stay curious and informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and evolving business models, translating this knowledge into client value.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required


Experience in a strategy or management consulting firm in a client-facing role.


Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including experience building financial models and analysing complex datasets.


Proven ability to synthesise data into clear insights and communicate them effectively through presentations and visual storytelling.


Demonstrated experience managing client relationships and senior stakeholders.


Strong project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.


Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence presenting to senior audiences.

Preferred:


Experience working with media, digital, technology, or subscription-based businesses.


Prior exposure to start-ups, scale-ups, or new business units within larger organisations.


Experience mentoring or managing junior team members.


A track record of contributing to business development or commercial growth initiatives.
