Introduction
Join the team at Gateway Recovery Centre as a Consultant Psychiatrist, providing specialist care for men and women in inpatient, rehabilitation, and low secure settings.
Located in Widnes, the centre offers convenient access to Liverpool, Manchester, Chester, and the wider Northwest, with excellent transport links for easy commuting.
Gateway Recovery Centre comprises 72 beds across 6 wards, including:
•
Women’s service: 1 acute ward and 2 level-2 rehabilitation wards for individuals with high support needs
•
Men’s service:
•
Specialist rehabilitation for men with ASD (Cedar Ward)
•
Low secure unit (Dove Ward)
•
Rehabilitation ward for older men with complex mental and physical health needs (Ash Ward)
You’ll join an established medical team of 4.5 Consultants, supported by a Practice Nurse, enhanced GP cover, a dedicated supervisor, medical secretarial support, and Specialty Doctor input for the acute ward.
You’ll also benefit from excellent CPD opportunities and a large peer group of experienced consultants across various subspecialties.
Key Responsibilities
•
Provide RC and Consultant Psychiatrist input to inpatients
•
Manage a caseload of 8–12 patients (0.5 WTE), depending on service needs
•
Participate in a low-frequency, second-on-call rota for the region
•
Assess new referrals to ensure suitability and clinical appropriateness
•
Offer clinical leadership and support ongoing governance and service development
•
Build strong relationships with external agencies, including community teams and commissioning bodies
•
Contribute to staff training, education, and development
About You
To be successful, you will need:
•
MRCPsych or equivalent
•
CCT in General Adult Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, Psychiatry of Learning Disabilities, or Medical Psychotherapy (preferred)
•
Experienced clinicians without CCT but with Approved Clinician (AC) status are also considered
•
Full GMC registration and a completed appraisal within the last 12 months
•
Section 12(2) approval and AC status
•
Experience working within an MDT, supporting individuals with complex needs
•
A motivated, innovative, and compassionate approach
•
Strong team ethos and excellent communication skills
