SUMMARY
The Construction Lineman is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications infrastructure, including both aerial and underground fiber optic cables. This role involves working at heights, operating specialized equipment, and collaborating with a team to ensure the successful delivery of high-speed internet, voice, and data services. The Lineman must adhere to strict safety standards, troubleshoot network issues, and maintain accurate documentation. This position requires technical expertise, physical stamina, and a commitment to quality, directly impacting the reliability and efficiency of telecommunications services.
POSITION SCHEDULE AND ONSITE REQUIREMENTS
This is a direct-hire, full-time position that reports out of our Chapel Hill office and works throughout our Middle Tennessee footprint on a day-to-day basis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include the following, but other duties may be assigned as required.
Install, maintain, and repair overhead fiber optic and coaxial cables, including running cables on utility poles, securing lines, and attaching necessary hardware.
Install and maintain underground conduit systems, pull cables through conduit, and splice fiber optic cables as needed.
Safely climb and work on utility poles using proper techniques and equipment.
Operate various construction equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, trenchers, and cable-pulling machines.
Adhere to all safety standards and practices, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and participation in safety meetings and training.
Identify and resolve issues related to cable installations, such as signal loss, damaged cables, or faulty equipment.
Accurately document work performed, including updating project logs, as-built drawings, and work orders.
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure the successful completion of projects.
Communicate effectively with customers when performing service installations or addressing issues on-site.
Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU BRING
3+ years of telecom aerial construction experience.
Knowledge of and ability to operate excavation equipment, bucket trucks, and related equipment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience with service-specific troubleshooting methods.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Ability and interest in working in a dynamic and rapidly changing technology environment while effectively managing multiple projects, stress, and conflict.
Ability to operate motorized work equipment and office equipment, including personal computers, phone systems, software applications, hand tools, electric tools, and test equipment.
