Position Details
Title: Director of Operations/Business Unit Leader (Level)
Type: 1099 Contract
Location: Hybrid (Atlanta/Newnan, GA; Auburn, AL proximity preferred) on-site/in person meetings 2-3 times per month
Hours: Part-time 20+ hours per week (with intent to grow to full time over 90-180 days)
Compensation: $10,000/month (option and access to add health benefits and performance incentives following a 90-day period)
Experience Level: 10+ years preferred
Reports To: CEO/Chief Development Officer
Position Overview
Level Workforce is seeking a Director of Operations/Business Unit Leader to lead and build our Operations Practice, one of five core service lines (Operations, Marketing, Sales & Technology, HR/Workforce, Finance).
This role serves a dual function:
Client-Facing Operator & Consultant – advising and improving operations for construction, real estate, and facilities clients
Internal Operational Leader – shaping and optimizing Level’s own operational systems and delivery model
The position is fractional to start, with a clear path to expanded hours and full-time leadership.
Core Responsibilities
Operations Practice Leadership
Build and lead Level’s Operations Practice
Develop standardized processes, playbooks, and delivery frameworks
Manage and mentor a lean team:
Project Manager / Estimator (future hire)
Project Coordinator (future hire)
Deploy fractional staff into client environments to execute solutions
Client Consulting & Execution
Serve as lead operations consultant to clients in the $5M–$50M revenue range, including:
General contractors (commercial & residential)
Trade contractors
Real estate development and facilities groups
Key areas of impact:
Operational process improvement
Organizational structure and staffing
Job costing and financial alignment
Preconstruction systems (estimating, trade qualification)
Project execution workflows
Field ↔ office integration
Work alongside:
Client leadership teams
Level’s other practice leaders (Marketing, Sales/Tech, HR, Finance)
Construction Operations Expertise
Office Operations (Primary Focus):
Preconstruction (estimating, trade qualification, bid leveling)
Project management systems and workflows
Job costing and financial tracking
Document control and administrative systems
Field Operations (Working Knowledge):
Safety programs
Production tracking
Quality control
Field staffing and execution models
Technology & Systems Implementation
Lead or support implementation of Level’s preferred tech stack:
Buildertrend (required proficiency)
Procore (preferred)
QuickBooks (financial operations)
HubSpot (CRM integration)
Apply systems within:
Level internal operations
Client businesses lacking structure or tools
Anchor Client Leadership – Baseline Building Group
Act as fractional COO for Baseline Building Group, serving as:
Operational lead for construction and property services
System owner (Buildertrend, QuickBooks, HubSpot)
Execution partner for:
Site work
Vertical construction
Property / facilities management
Baseline serves as the “test kitchen” and flagship model for:
Bohanon Farms
Creek Stand Land Company
Cross-Functional Leadership
Collaborate weekly with Level’s leadership team (5 Directors)
Identify and activate cross-sell opportunities across practices:
Marketing
Sales & Technology
HR / Workforce
Finance
Support integrated client delivery model
Qualifications
Experience
Required: 8–15+ years of operations management and leadership experience in commercial construction company and/or large and complex residential builder setting
Proven experience in:
Preconstruction
Estimating
Project management
Contracts negotiations/buyout
Scopes of work
Job costing
Scheduling
Vendor sourcing
Field operations
Operations leadership
Technical Skills
Strong proficiency in Buildertrend (required)
Experience with Procore (preferred)
Demonstrated AI and technology systems proficiency
Working knowledge of:
Job costing systems
CRM platforms (HubSpot preferred)
Accounting coordination and QuickBooks familiarity
Leadership & Consulting Traits
Operationally focused leader with a hands-on approach
Strong process builder and systems thinker
Excellent communication and client-facing skills
Ability to lead teams and drive accountability without direct authority
Capable of both executing work and training/developing others
Geography & Travel
Must be based in or near Atlanta or Newnan or the Auburn, AL area
Comfortable working in a hybrid environment, including remote work, in-person meetings, and site visits (2-3 times per month)
Ability to travel periodically throughout Georgia, the Florida Panhandle, Alabama, and Mississippi
