We operate 24/7 and as such you are required to work flexible hours, weekends and participate in an on-call rota. Full training / PPE / use of company equipment will be provided to ensure that all our drainage engineers have the right tools, competency, and confidence to undertake the work to Lanes’ high standard of operation regardless of background or previous experience.

Lanes Group are looking for a fit and healthy individual to join our Trunk and Large Local Sewer entry team as Trunk Sewer Engineer within a team of three to six lanes group engineers on complex sewer cleaning & confined space entry projects. This opportunity will see the successful candidate working in collaboration with Thames Water's WNS Large Local Sewers and Trunk Sewer Regions.

Location: Gerrards Cross Depot (Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire)

Job Type: permanent, full-time

Hours: Monday to Friday, 50 hours (7am - 5:30pm) plus one week of nights every four weeks (7pm - 5:30am)

Salary: Competitive, to be discussed at interview and depending upon experience

About the Role:

Due to continued growth and development, we are now looking for customer focused people to join us in our Utility Division, working on our Thames Water contract service to deliver real and effective solutions to waste-water network and drainage problems.

Undertake Face Fit testing on a regular basis and remain clean shaven when required to enter Confined Spaces

Fully conversant with TW procedures and systems

Authoritative, challenging and not easily swayed

An uncompromising approach with attention to detail

All safety equipment is inspected, calibrated, tested and available in good working order

Report to the manager/authorised person of any incident, dangerous occurrence defects of other exceptional incidents occurring during the work in Confined Spaces

Operatives are medically fit on the day of the planned entry (colds and respiratory illness can affect a person’s ability to wear breathing apparatus - this also includes clean shaven)

Employees are fully briefed and understand the risks and controls

All entry documentation is completed

Understand and accept permits to work

Ensure appropriate emergency procedures are in place

Stop work and withdraw personnel and equipment if for any reason the conditions of the Confined Space change and/ or the agreed procedure or permit cannot be met

Designate Emergency Rescue Team

Be aware of all Lanes Group policies and your responsibilities towards them

Any other reasonable ad-hoc duties, tasks or projects requested by management

About You:

The ideal candidate will be hard working and respectful and comply with health and safety standards. Confined space drainage qualifications (e.g. Level 2 Award in Entrant and Entry Controller for Confined Spaces or Level 3 Award in working as a Member of a Rescue and Recovery Team in Confined Spaces) are an advantage. 

The ability to work cooperatively and safely within a team is a must. Authorising Team & WOCC on a daily basis, candidates will be required to be compliant with Thames Water confined space entry procedures’. HSP 14 Guide-to-planning-entering-and-working-safely-in-confined-spaces & HSP 46 Safe and secure isolation - waste water assets.

You must have a full UK driver's licence and, due to the nature of the equipment worn and to ensure your safety, you must be clean shaven.
