About us
Are you passionate about FinTech and ready to make a tangible impact in a dynamic company where your decisions shape the future?
Altery could be your next chapter. We’re seeking a dedicated and experienced Compliance Officer & Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) for our crypto-payments business in El Salvador. You will design, implement, and continually refine our compliance and AML/CFT frameworks under the Salvadoran regime—working with the Superintendencia del Sistema Financiero (SSF), the Comisión Nacional de Activos Digitales (CNAD), and the Banco Central de Reserva (BCR); aligning to the Ley contra el Lavado de Dinero y de Activos and SSF norms (including Bitcoin/digital-asset guidance) and handling STR/SAR submissions to the UIF (Financial Intelligence Unit) via goAML. Deep knowledge of El Salvador’s CNAD/SSF rules, AML best practices, and crypto/fintech operations is essential, along with the ability to provide strategic guidance to senior management and foster a firm-wide culture of integrity.
If this sounds like you, join us and help shape the future of financial services
What you'll be doing
Establish and maintain a compliance programme aligned to the AML/CFT Law (Ley contra el Lavado de Dinero y de Activos) and sectoral rules from the Superintendencia del Sistema Financiero (SSF), the Comisión Nacional de Activos Digitales (CNAD) (incl. the Reglamento de Proveedores de Servicios de Activos Digitales, 2023) and any relevant Banco Central de Reserva (BCR) technical norms for digital/crypto services. Keep the Firm continuously compliant with registration, ongoing obligations, and prudential/conduct expectations.
Act as primary contact with SSF/CNAD (and BCR where applicable). Prepare and submit required compliance/AML returns and ad-hoc notifications. File STR/SARs to El Salvador’s Unidad de Investigación Financiera (UIF) via goAML, ensuring confidentiality and on-time submission.
Maintain robust controls for AML/CFT, KYC/KYB, ongoing monitoring, and STR/SAR escalation. Screen against UN sanctions lists (and, as risk-based best practice, OFAC/HMT/EU where relevant to the Firm’s exposure). Map and audit KYC systems/controls end-to-end.
Embed FATF (and MENAFATF) recommendations; leverage recognised guidance (e.g., Wolfsberg, Egmont indicators) for screening, QA, and staff training.
Run a risk-based monitoring calendar (disclosures, record-keeping, outsourcing/third-party controls, customer outcomes), document findings, and drive remediation to keep internal controls effective under SSF/CNAD expectations.
Perform periodic enterprise and AML/CFT risk assessments; brief senior management/Board on vulnerabilities and mitigation; escalate to SSF/CNAD/UIF where thresholds are met.
Maintain direct lines to the Board/CEO; present clear action plans for any breaches or audit/exam findings and track closure, consistent with local governance standards.
Deliver targeted, role-based training on Salvadoran AML/CFT obligations and updates to SSF/CNAD rules; refresh promptly after regulatory changes and audit/exam outcomes.
Draft, review and update the Compliance Manual, AML/CFT Policy and related SOPs to reflect current SSF/CNAD/BCR provisions and the AML Law.
Oversee onboarding and periodic reviews (natural persons and KYB), ensuring EDD for higher-risk relationships, documentation standards, and trigger-event reviews per Salvadoran AML/CFT requirements and CNAD/SSF rules.
What you’ll bring to us
Based in San Salvador or willing to obtain El Salvador residency; Spanish & English fluency.
5+ years in compliance/AML/CTF/risk within a regulated fintech/payments/crypto firm; experience with SSF-regulated entities or CNAD-registered digital-asset service providers.
Hands-on engagement with the Superintendencia del Sistema Financiero (SSF) and the Unidad de Investigación Financiera (UIF); timely filing of STR/SAR; familiarity with BCR rules affecting payment flows.
Salvadoran AML/CFT law and UIF instructions; SSF norms/circulars; awareness of FATF/MENAFATF standards; sanctions screening against UN (and, where relevant, OFAC/EU/HMT) lists.
Working knowledge of the Digital Assets Issuance Law and CNAD registration/oversight; practical understanding of wallets, on/off-ramps, Travel Rule, and blockchain analytics.
Demonstrable record of owning AML/CTF outcomes, making defensible STR decisions, and escalating to SSF/UIF when thresholds are met.
Comfortable operating in a multi-jurisdiction group (policies, records, outsourcing oversight, data protection).
Degree in law/finance/compliance preferred; ACAMS/ICA or crypto-financial crime certifications a plus.
