He angituutanga: The opportunity 
Reporting to the Compliance and Monitoring Manager, you’ll play a key role in ensuring compliance with the RMA relating to noise control and Building Act across the city. You’ll investigate noise and building concerns, monitor building-related activities, and take appropriate action where standards aren’t being met.
This is a varied, people-focused role where no two days are the same. Alongside your technical work, you’ll be working closely with customers, responding to concerns, and helping resolve issues in a fair and timely way. Strong communication, sound judgement and a customer-first mindset are essential.
What you’ll be doing
• Responding to and resolving noise complaints under the Resource Management Act
• Investigating complaints relating to building work and environmental compliance
• Monitoring buildings and facilities (including pools) to ensure compliance with legislation and Council priorities
• Identifying and addressing illegal, dangerous, or insanitary work
• Enforcing relevant legislation, including the Building Act 2004 and Resource Management Act 1991
• Issuing notices and ensuring compliance actions are completed within required timeframes
• Maintaining accurate records, including photographic evidence where required
• Supporting the maintenance of Building Consent Authority accreditation
• Providing advice to your manager where legal action may be required
• Building positive relationships with customers and delivering responsive, professional service

We’re looking for someone who can balance regulatory responsibilities with strong customer service:
• Experience in a compliance, regulatory, or enforcement role (preferred)
• Knowledge of the RMA, Building Act, Building Code, or the wider building controls environment (preferred)
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
• Confidence resolving conflict and working through challenging situations
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with a wide range of people
• Sound judgement and the ability to see the bigger picture
• A current full driver licence

Circa $90,000 dependent on skills and experience.
