Position Summary
Under the direction of the Finance Controller, the Junior Accountant supports the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs Inc. (AMC) financial operations by assisting with day-to-day accounting functions, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with internal controls accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with accounts payable functions, such as data entry, payment preparation, vendor account reconciliation and batch review
Assist with accounts receivable processing, such as cash application and customer account reconciliation
Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts
Prepare adjusting journal entries
Support month-end and year-end close processes
Assist in preparing financial reports, schedules, and summaries as needed
Maintain accurate documentation and audit trails
Support internal and external audits as needed
Maintain organized financial files and records
Assist with payroll processing and benefit reconciliations, as needed
Respond to internal finance-related inquiries
Ensure compliance with internal policies
Provide backup support for other finance team members
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Diploma in Accounting, studying towards a financial designation or related field (or equivalent experience)
1–2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience
Basic knowledge of accounting principles and financial processes
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
Familiarity with Sage, or similar accounting systems
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Good organizational and time-management skills
Ability to follow established procedures and meet deadlines
Willingness to learn and take direction
Ability to work independently
Professional communication and teamwork skills
Must be able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
Knowledge of general office procedures, practices, maintains confidentiality and office equipment operations
Demonstrated computer knowledge capabilities in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
Knowledge of First Nation culture, history, and issues.
Must be able to work flexible hours
Must provide a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Clear Child Abuse Registry Check
