Required Skills
Job Description
Sort the law. Shape the business. Grow with us.
If you're a sharp junior lawyer who wants real responsibility fast — not a front-row seat to watch someone else do the interesting work — this is your role.
ABOUT COSECLY
Cosecly is a tech-first company secretarial partner for ambitious South African businesses. We replace clunky spreadsheets and manual compliance with smart cloud tools and specialists who know what matters, when it matters.
We're early-stage, growing fast, and looking for someone who wants to help build something — not just fill a seat.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As our Company Secretarial Associate (Legal), you'll be the legal heart of our client service. You'll advise clients on their Companies Act obligations, draft resolutions and agreements, manage CIPC filings, and help businesses understand what good governance actually looks like in practice.
You'll work directly with clients from day one. And you'll have a genuine say in how we build and run things — because we want someone who spots a better way and says so.
WHO YOU'LL LEARN FROM
You'll have direct access to the founders of two established South African businesses:
· Eitan Stern — Founder, Legalese
· Simon Magner — Founder, Iridium
· Peter Magner — Co-founder, Iridium
This is hands-on mentorship from people who've built, scaled, and operated successfully in South Africa. The kind of access that takes years to find in a traditional legal career.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Legal advisory & drafting
· Advise clients on their obligations under the Companies Act, 71 of 2008
· Draft board and shareholder resolutions, MOI amendments, and shareholder agreements
· Support clients with POPIA compliance and basic governance frameworks
· Turn complex legal requirements into clear, practical guidance
CIPC & statutory compliance
· Manage incorporations, director and shareholder changes end-to-end
· Maintain statutory registers, share registers, and compliance records
· File annual returns and beneficial ownership submissions accurately and on time
Client relationships
· Be a trusted first point of contact on legal and compliance questions
· Communicate proactively — no client should wonder where things stand
Building Cosecly
· Contribute ideas on how we develop, improve, and package our services
· Spot inefficiencies and help us build smarter ways of working
WHAT YOU BRING
· LLB degree; an admitted attorney is advantageous but not required
· 0–3 years' experience in company law, commercial law, or a cosec environment
· Solid working knowledge of the Companies Act and CIPC processes
· Clear, professional communicator — written and verbal
· Strong ownership: you follow through, you take pride in accuracy, deadlines don't slip
· Curious about legal tech and genuinely excited to help build something

You'll own client relationships and have a say in how we operate — not three years from now, but from the start.
