Position Title: Community Programs Driver
FLSA: Non-Exempt, part-time
Hourly Position: $35 - $40 per hour based on experience.
Location: On-site, San Francisco, CA

Booker T. Washington Community Service Center (BTWCSC) is one of the Bay Area’s oldest Black-led and serving nonprofit organizations with a century of service to San Francisco. A beacon of Black joy and self-determination, we have nurtured over five generations of Black San Franciscans. We stand embedded as an anchor institution, fostering intergenerational bonds and working in solidarity with allied communities to reform and reimagine a more inclusive San Francisco. We prioritize serving the Black community and welcome all from cultures and ages 0-99 who walk through our door. We are one of the few urban spaces where anyone in the community can access comprehensive services, from a hot meal to childcare to academic support to senior services.
Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Operations, the purpose of this job is to perform duties related to the operation of the BTWCSC programs.
Essential Duties
Drives within a designed route(s) by time schedules, picking up and discharging students at designated stops.
Remain conscious of passengers' conduct and the safety of their buses and report misconduct to the Director of Operations and or applicable leadership.
Observe legal and defensive driving practices; assure compliance with applicable traffic and student transportation laws, codes, and regulations.
Conduct safety and operational inspections of assigned vehicles daily.
Reports needed mechanical repairs when necessary.
Service vans with gas and maintain a record of the date and amounts spent.
Performs periodical safety drills as required by law, completing necessary reports upon request.
Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition.
Completes periodic mileage and other reports, including passenger counts.
Attends various meetings regarding safety, first aid, and training updates as required
Attends driver training programs to maintain current knowledge of the California Motor Vehicle Code and the education code as it applies to the operation of vehicles in the transportation of school children.
Wash and clean vehicles as needed
To be assigned or reassigned duties and responsibilities as needed by management
Qualifications and Skills Required:
High School Diploma or GED
Valid California Driver's CDL License required at least Commercial Class B
Passenger endorsement
At least two years of experience successfully working with children.
Ability to plan, be flexible, and work with a team
Knowledge of the provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code as applied to the operation of vehicles used to transport school children.
Knowledge of safe driving practices.
Communicate effectively with agency staff, clients, youth, and volunteers.
Emotional maturity, good moral character, and integrity.
Other training may be required after employment begins.
Genuine interest in the character development of youth.
Does not indulge in illicit drugs or alcoholic beverages before or during work hours
Ability to plan, be flexible, work with a team, and create on-site activities.
Must have CPR/First Aid certification.
Problem-solving abilities.
Creativity and attention to detail.
Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., varies based on the regular San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) instructional calendar, with additional hours when available and approved.
Full Days Required on several SFUSD school closure days.
Additional hours required for family events include but are not limited to youth department events, evening and late-night duty, early dismissal, week hours, staff meetings, and a calendar will be provided.
