Community Program Facilitator – Deadly Dads

The Deadly Dads Program helps Cree fathers-to-be reconnect with their roles as caregivers, leaders, and protectors through sharing circles, land-based learning, and community connection, fostering healing, growth, and strength.

Alberta First Nations Information Governance Centre (Alberta FNIGC) is a not-for-profit, First Nations-owned organisation. We promote, protect, and advance First Nations’ Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession (OCAP®) principles, the inherent right to self-determination, and jurisdiction in research and information management.

Through our Community Wellness & Engagement initiatives, we walk alongside Nations to support culturally grounded programming that reflects community priorities and lived experience.

About the Role

Based in Maskwacîs, the successful candidate will coordinate and facilitate the Deadly Dads program under the guidance of the Community Research Associate.

This community-rooted role requires strong relationships, cultural grounding, and commitment to walking alongside fathers, reflecting Cree teachings and community needs.

Success in this role is based on trust, consistency, and presence in the community.

What you might do in a day…

Coordinate and facilitate gatherings, sharing circles, workshops, and land-based activities;

Create culturally safe spaces where fathers can connect, reflect, and support one another;

Integrate Cree teachings, ceremony, and traditional practices with guidance from Elders and Knowledge Keepers.

Build strong, consistent relationships with fathers and fathers-to-be;

Support men navigating life transitions such as new parenthood, reunification, and reconnecting with children;

Connect participants to community supports when needed

Maintain participation records in alignment with the Alberta FNIGC standards and  OCAP® principles;

Collaborate with team members and community partners to support wrap-around care.

Prepare activity summaries and brief reports

Represent the program within the Maskwacis community.

If you are…

Grounded, respectful, and committed to uplifting Cree men and families.

Comfortable facilitating circles and conversations that may involve trauma, healing, and personal growth

Skilled at building trust while maintaining healthy boundaries;

Emotionally steady, and able to navigate complex family dynamics with care;

Knowledgeable about Cree teachings, protocols, and community life

Adaptable and willing to work some evenings or weekends based on community needs

A strong communicator who can connect with both community members and leadership

And you have. . .

Experience working with Indigenous men, fathers, families, or community-based programming

Strong facilitation, relationship-building, and organisational skills

An understanding of trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally grounded approaches

Knowledge of the Maskwacîs community (strong asset)

Familiarity with OCAP® principles (asset)

Connection to Cree language, teachings, and community life (strong asset)

A valid Class 5 driver’s license

Education…

Post-secondary education in Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Human Services, Health Care, or a related field is an asset.

Equivalent combinations of lived experience, cultural knowledge, and community leadership will be considered.
