About the position
Citizen Action is looking to add a Community Campaigns Organizer for Southern Tier to our team. The Community Campaigns Organizer will work directly with community members to basebuild and expand organizational membership through the lens of organizational issue based campaigns. This position will report to the Co-Director of Campaigns Organizing.
Skills/Qualifications:
A minimum of 3 years of organizing experience, with at least 2 of the 3 years experience in a paid, professional role, preference for candidates with experience working on issue campaigns and/or electoral campaigns
A minimum of 1 year of experience planning and utilizing basebuilding tactics such as phone banking, door canvassing, tabling, facilitation of workshops and meetings, and other such skill areas
A minimum of 1 year of experience planning and utilizing issue campaign tactics such event planning, lobby meetings, and other such skill areas
Willingness to learn and effectively use the organization’s training methodology - demonstrating the skill, doing shoulder-to-shoulder work with member leaders, tracking/analyzing results, and providing effective feedback.
Commitment to track the progress of basebuilding and outreach work through the use of organizational data systems in order to assess success
Familiar with Google Drive and Zoom. Preferred experience with VAN, Scale to Win, Mobilize, and Action Network, and a willingness to learn outreach tools.
Displays cultural competency and has a proven ability to connect and relate to people from a wide variety of diverse backgrounds.
Ability to be flexible with work planning and priority setting in order to meet the needs of the organization and the local community
Ability to work evenings and weekends
Ability to travel for work commitments
What you’ll do and the impact you'll make
Base Building/Outreach/Recruitment – Recruit organizational members. Use campaign issues and electoral campaigns to grow our organization through outreach strategies that grow the dedicated base of volunteers. Develops and employs strategic campaigns at the local level that connect to the statewide priorities of the organization. Create and implement an outreach and recruitment plan to grow our membership base for chapter meetings, committee meetings, mobilization efforts, and campaign tactics. Use organizing tactics such as 1:1s, phone banking, text banking, tabling, and door canvassing in order to grow chapter members. Lead outreach events with members. Focus will be on outreach to directly impacted individuals who can share the stories that amplify the need for change in our issue campaigns.
Leadership Development: Train volunteers and members in strategic education and leadership skills such as strategy development, event planning, media interaction, storytelling, and other areas that build capacity for basebuilding and absorption of new membership in regions. Ensure that leaders in the community have a role and develop their skills in organizing for social change.
Administrative - Manage data requirements, such as entering 1:1’s, volunteer activities, turnout, volunteer profiles, and other information into organizational systems.. Work with the Canvass and Mobilization Director to create recruitment phone banks, canvass lists, outreach and recruitment scripts, and other such needs
Legislative – Work to create outreach strategies based on legislative campaigns that demonstrate an understanding of the political profiles of elected officials in regions.
Campaigns - As appropriate, work with staff and members to identify, plan, and execute local campaigns that connect to and benefit the statewide and Federal issue campaign work.
Electoral: Recruit members and leaders to be a part of organizational leadership structures and help identify members to run for political office.
Communications –Create content and collect stories for weekly emails, social media, and other communications opportunities, and work with Communications staff to implement campaigns strategies such as letters to the editor, op-eds, and other communications tactics

Able to speak Spanish fluently.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This is not a supervisory role.
Location
This position is a hybrid of remote and in-person. This position reports to the Binghamton office. In-person participation in meetings and events will be required at different locations.
Periodic travel across New York State is required. Travel may be required outside of New York State. Travel may include multiple day trips and over weekends.

Salary: $64,405 - $68,619
