Job Description
Community Builder @ Kilo Code (Part-time, 10–15 hrs/week)
About Kilo: We're building the fastest-evolving open-source AI coding agent to make programming accessible to billions. In just a few months: #1 AI coding tool on OpenRouter, over 500K downloads, countless 5-star reviews, multiple Hacker News front-page articles. But we're just getting started.
Kilo Code is more than just another coding tool. We're creating a superset of the best features from existing AI coding agents, combined with our own innovations — all built with community feedback at the core.
The situation: We’re an open-source AI coding tool taking on Cursor, Windsurf, and the rest. Our community is growing fast — vibrant on Discord, budding on Reddit, and ready for more connection. We want every Kilo user, from open-source contributors to free-tier builders, to feel part of something alive. Your job is to make that happen.
We believe great products grow from great communities — ones that are curious, welcoming, and a little bit chaotic in the best way.
You are
• A connector who can make an online space feel alive — you enjoy conversation, curiosity, and sparking engagement
• The kind of person who drops into a quiet Discord channel and suddenly everyone’s talking again
• Fast — Kilo Speed fast. You’d rather test five ideas this week than perfect one for a month
• Comfortable juggling Discord, Reddit, and new experiments (office hours, meetups, maybe even a podcast) without losing focus
• Skilled at turning DevRel content into lightweight community moments: memes, polls, posts, updates, shout-outs
• A steady signal booster who keeps the community friendly, helpful, and always moving
What you’ll bring
• Community instincts: you can sense when a conversation needs energy, guidance, or moderation
• Editorial taste: you know what resonates in developer communities and how to remix it for engagement
• Crisis radar: you notice issues early and handle them calmly
• Collaboration chops: you work fluidly with DevRel and Support, amplifying what’s happening across Kilo without adding process overhead
• Execution bias: you post, test, learn, and adapt quickly
Extra credit for
• Experience building or moderating technical or open-source communities
• Strong opinions on how Discords and subreddits should (and shouldn’t) run
• Comfort coordinating small in-person or virtual events
• An inclusive sense of humor and empathy for different communication styles
• Building lively communities without big marketing budgets
Anti-requirements
• Needing a brand rule book before posting
• Waiting for approval to try something new
• Thinking “community management” means scheduling content two weeks out
• Over-moderating or stripping out personality
• Comfort with slow
Apply with
• Links to communities you’ve helped grow, posts you’ve written, or screenshots that show your approach
• A short note on how you’d make Kilo’s Discord or subreddit feel more active
• Optional: your favorite example of an online community that really works — and why
Location: US or Western Europe time zones
Hours: ~10–15/week, flexible but consistent presence across the week
