We are seeking a creative and motivated Communications Specialist to help grow and elevate our video storytelling capabilities while supporting broader communications initiatives. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys shooting and editing video and is also enthusiastic about contributing to graphic design, social media, and other internal and external communications efforts. You will work closely with the Communications Manager and have the opportunity to help shape how our company tells its story—both internally and within the communities we serve.
Whitaker Construction, founded in 1953, has over 70 years of experience in the heavy civil and underground utility construction industry. Whitaker, an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company, has become one of the largest contractors in the intermountain area with more than 600 employees and nearly 70 crews. We perform sanitary sewer, storm drain, culinary water, irrigation, earthwork, roadway construction, dams, landfills, natural gas pipelines, industrial piping, and telecommunication projects primarily in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, and Oregon.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Plan, shoot, and edit video content for internal communications, social media, recruiting, and community storytelling
Help expand Whitaker Construction’s video capabilities, including short-form, long-form, and project-based videos
Visit jobsites and work in an active construction environment while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE)
Capture photos and video in the field, at jobsites, events, and company facilities
Edit videos using Adobe Premiere Pro (or similar), with a strong sense of pacing, storytelling, and brand consistency
Design graphics for internal and external use (digital and print), including presentations, flyers, signage, and social media assets
Assist with social media content creation, scheduling, and posting
Contribute to internal newsletters and company communications
Support branding initiatives and help maintain consistent visual and messaging standards
Collaborate with team members across departments to tell meaningful stories about our people, projects, and impact
This position requires frequent travel to project sites. Occasional travel to Southern Utah and Idaho may be required.
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field from an accredited four-year university, or a minimum of five years of related experience and/or training
Strong experience planning, shooting, and editing video
Proficiency with video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro preferred)
Working knowledge of graphic design tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva)
Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Strong attention to detail and corporate storytelling skills
Ability to take consistent, high-quality photos using standard photography equipment
Experience managing or contributing to social media accounts
Experience with internal and external communications
Experience with back-end website management (Wix, WordPress, etc.)
Currently hold or be willing to obtain a Part 107 drone license
Ability to read and write Spanish is a plus
Knowledge of or experience with SEO and web traffic management
Experience managing corporate merchandise or promotional items
Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds frequently
Ability to work outdoors and be exposed to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception
