Job Description

The University of Notre Dame is more than a workplace! We are a vibrant, mission-driven community where every employee is valued and supported. Rooted in a tradition of excellence and inspired by our Catholic character, Notre Dame is committed to fostering an environment of care that nurtures the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. Here, you will find a deep sense of belonging, a culture that prioritizes well-being, and the opportunity to grow your career while being a force for good in the world. Whether contributing to world-class research, shaping the student experience, or supporting the University’s mission in other ways, you will be part of a dedicated team working to make a meaningful impact on campus and beyond. At Notre Dame, your work matters, and so do you!

The Campus Ministry Communications Specialist manages communications efforts on behalf of Campus Ministry, one of six areas within the Division of Student Affairs whose primary purpose is to cultivate and care for the spiritual needs of all students who call Notre Dame home.

Rooted in the Catholic, Holy Cross tradition, Campus Ministry fosters personal spiritual growth, encourages participation in the sacramental and liturgical life of the Church, supports various forms of worship and personal prayer, provides opportunities for pilgrimages, retreats and service, and seeks to enhance and develop lifelong faith formation.

Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President for Campus Ministry, the Communications Specialist plays a central role in the development and implementation of communications materials on behalf of Campus Ministry and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Importantly, the Communications Specialist maintains existing communications processes and policies, and works to advance an already robust, engaging, and authentic social media presence to resonate and build relationships with current and potential students. The Communications Specialist also serves as a member of the Campus Ministry Leadership Team and is charged with the supervision of student workers and contracted freelance specialists and the creation of in-house print, web, and multimedia materials to promote Campus Ministry programming and events. This position works collaboratively with Campus Ministry staff and an extensive list of campus partners to enhance awareness for the area, promoting offerings, resources, and services to students, faculty, staff, campus visitors, the local community, and the wider Church.

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Work in partnership with the Assistant Vice President for Campus Ministry, Area directors, and Campus Ministry colleagues to develop, implement, and assess existing and future communications tactics used in the promotion of programs, liturgies, and events to students, faculty, staff, and other internal and external constituencies.
• Grow an established social media presence to resonate and build relationships with current and potential students.
• Manage communications work with internal contacts, outside vendors, and consultants; hire and manage student workers in the areas of social media and design; capture photography, write news stories, and perform regular administrative duties including budgeting, scheduling, and ordering specialty Area items.
• Oversee the ongoing stewardship of the Campus Ministry and Basilica websites, e-newsletter, social media accounts, and existing promotional channels.
• Serve as a member of the Leadership Team to articulate and execute the mission and vision of Campus Ministry in a timely and relevant manner through the lens of communications. Serve as a member of the  Division of Student Affairs by regularly collaborating with other areas within the Division of Student Affairs (Career and Professional Development, Residential Life, Sister Thea Bowman Center, Student Development, and Student Health and Wellness), student clubs and organizations, and other University units to enhance the department’s work building connections and relationships with students.

• Bachelor’s degree (Master's preferred) in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or other related fields.
• At least three years of professional experience in areas such as communications, marketing, project management, social media management, design, photography, and/or strategic planning.
• Experience working in a church or ministry setting is a plus.
• Understanding of and commitment to the University’s Catholic identity and ability to communicate to and with college students.
• Proven ability to develop, organize, deploy, and manage multiple priorities, projects, and communications resources.
• Demonstrated experience developing multi-layered promotional campaigns using various design applications such as the Adobe Creative Cloud.
• Notable understanding of social media strategy with the proven ability to manage multiple platforms to create engaging content and increase reach among target audiences.
• Adept in the intentional use of photography and videography, with a working knowledge of photo, video, and audio production equipment and editing software.
• Familiarity with web content management software applications and use.
• Appreciation for and willingness to learn and implement new and emerging technologies.
• Robust writing and editing skills.
• Strong organizational skills and a keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively and tactfully with Student Affairs and Campus Ministry colleagues, University leadership, and other stakeholders.
