Revive and grow Freelancer Group's owned media channels through writing engaging stories.
Required Skills
Job Description
The Freelancer Group operates three global platforms: Freelancer – the world's largest freelancing and crowdsourcing marketplace by number of users and projects posted – Escrow.com, the world's leading online escrow payments platform, and Loadshift, Australia's largest freight exchange.
About the Role
We're looking for a strong writer who can help revive and grow the Freelancer Group's owned media channels – including community groups, blogs and on-site copy – while also supporting earned media campaigns. You'll find and develop the stories that make our platforms interesting: the freelancer who built a business from nothing, the escrow transaction that saved a deal, the carrier who changed how they operate.
This role sits at the intersection of content, PR and data. You won't just be writing – you'll be mining internal dashboards and data sources each week to identify content opportunities. That means scanning trending job categories and keywords from our analytics platform, reviewing recently completed projects for compelling stories, checking Trustpilot reviews for standout transaction narratives, and cross-referencing news feeds to spot angles where our platform data adds something to the conversation.
You'll work from a structured content pipeline and contribute across all four content pillars (Celebrate, Educate, Commentate and Captivate), with a particular focus on Celebrate and Educate. When not working on content or campaign briefs, you'll support the Social CX team by handling customer feedback across social platforms.
AI should not be relied upon for generating copy. It can be used for proofreading and bullet points, but the writing needs to be yours.
What You'll Do
• Write, edit and publish content for owned media channels, including blogs, community groups and site copy across Freelancer, Escrow.com and Loadshift
• Source and develop case studies by identifying compelling platform users, conducting interviews and building stories for social, blog and earned media use
• Work with the existing Master Case Study Database – identifying unused Tier A stories, appraising new leads and maintaining records
• Scan internal data sources weekly to identify content opportunities: trending job categories, keyword movements, recently completed projects, repeat clients with growing investment, and new Preferred Freelancer inductees
• Review Escrow.com Trustpilot reviews for compelling transaction stories (domain purchases, vehicle sales, high-value cross-border deals)
• Review Loadshift carrier data for profile story candidates – high-earning veterans, fast-growing newcomers and carriers with extraordinary loads
• Turn platform data and case studies into content for social media, blog posts and earned media pitches
• Support the Director of Communications on earned media outreach – drafting pitches, preparing media materials and maintaining journalist contact lists
• Apply SEO and GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) best practices to all owned content to maximise organic reach and AI search discoverability
• Adapt tone and style across three distinct brand voices: Freelancer (direct, no-BS, motivational), Escrow.com (premium, confident, trust-focused) and Loadshift (down-to-earth, Australian, industry-respectful)
• Collaborate with the Viral Media Specialist and Motion Designer to develop integrated content campaigns
• Perform Social CX duties as required, including responding to customer complaints, questions and feedback on social media platforms
Requirements:
What We're Looking For
• 2+ years' experience in content writing, communications, journalism or a related field
• A portfolio demonstrating strong, clear writing across different formats and audiences – writing that sounds like a person, not a press release
• Experience sourcing and writing case studies or human interest stories
• Comfortable working with data dashboards and analytics – you don't need to write SQL, but you should be able to look at a trending categories chart and know which numbers make a good story
• Working knowledge of SEO principles – keyword research, on-page optimisation, content structure
• Familiarity with GEO and how AI-driven search is changing content discoverability
• Experience with content management systems (WordPress or similar)
• Strong research and interviewing skills
• Excellent written English – grammar, structure and an ear for what reads well
• Comfortable working independently and managing multiple briefs at once
Nice to Have
• Background in journalism, PR or media relations
• Experience with media databases or PR tools (e.g. Muck Rack, Prezly or similar)
• Familiarity with analytics tools (Google Analytics, social media analytics)
• Understanding of the freelancing, fintech or logistics industries
• Experience writing for B2B and B2C audiences
• Basic graphic design skills for creating simple visual content
