POSITION

Communications Assistant C - Digital Communication Intern – Zero-waste

CONTEXT

The mission of the McGill Office of Sustainability (MOOS) is to create a culture of sustainability at McGill. MOOS aims to identify, connect, and enhance efforts to incorporate principles of sustainability (ecological, social, and economic) into all areas of the University. We provide the institutional memory and knowledge, the network of partnerships, the framework for sustainability at McGill (Climate & Sustainability Strategy), and the seed funding (Sustainability Projects Fund) to facilitate the sustainability efforts of students, faculty, and staff.

 

Among its five long-term commitments, McGill aims to become zero-waste by 2035 by attaining a diversion rate of 90 percent, based on the internationally recognized standard. To achieve this target, the McGill community will have to make changes to campus waste infrastructure and supply chains, while also bolstering education and engagement initiatives.

DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Communications Officer, the Digital Communication Intern – Zero-waste will help create and manage content that supports McGill’s zero-waste initiatives. This includes:

• Creating and managing content for MOOS website and social media channels.
• Developing targeted content to promote zero-waste initiatives and educate the McGill community on proper waste-sorting.
• Working with the Zero-Waste Engagement Intern, along with Zero-Waste Ambassadors, to design and deliver content
• Photographing sustainability events and sharing live social media content, specifically for zero-waste events.
• Updating website content to ensure accuracy and high user engagement.
• Building relationships with other McGill teams and groups to cross-share content and expand reach of campaigns.
• Pitching content ideas and collaborating closely with the Digital Communication and Graphic Design interns to produce high-quality assets.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

• Demonstrated experience creating and managing content for social media channels (e.g. Instagram, and Facebook).
• Strong written communication skills, with experience writing for social media.
• Highly organized and reliable, with the ability to manage time effectively and work independently.
• Interest in social media marketing, and environmental and social sustainability.
• Knowledge of sustainability initiatives and groups at McGill is an asset.
• Proficiency in French an asset.
