Communications and Media Support Specialist.
Position Summary
This position provides communications and media support to the Department of Energy (DOE) Hanford Field Office (HFO) and the Hanford Office of Communications (HOC) team.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute communication strategies on complex technical topics to effectively inform internal and external stakeholders with varying levels of expertise.
Produce and manage graphic content for communication products.
Review invoices, track expenditures, and provide budget status updates to HOC leadership.
Support regulatory interactions by preparing materials, tracking activities, and facilitating communications.
Develop communication materials such as briefing books, infographics, flowcharts, brochures, and digital slideshows.
Maintain content for electronic office displays.
Manage office bulletin boards to ensure content is current and aligned with Hanford communications priorities.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support evolving office needs.
Produce materials for stakeholder engagement, including those requiring technical research.
Compile, draft, and format required reports for DOE Headquarters.
Design and deliver high‑quality presentations, handouts, and media products for the Hanford site manager and senior leadership.
Create, monitor, and manage purchase requisitions in coordination with procurement.
Write, format, and distribute newsletters and routine informational updates.
Plan, prepare, and support meetings by creating agendas, presentations, and related materials to ensure productive engagement.
Experience & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study. Ten years of experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in communications, graphics support, or related field.
Experience writing and designing for external non-technical audiences on highly technical topics.
Demonstrated proficiency with budget tracking, invoice review, and requisition creation.
Experience in interfacing, designing, and producing high-level communication products for senior management and stakeholders.
Strong understanding of media strategies and tools.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), graphics/desktop publishing software, and email/distribution platforms.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in all matters.
Working knowledge of DOE program management practices, policies, and procedures is preferred.
In-depth knowledge of the Hanford Site mission, activities, priorities, and stakeholder landscape to include, but not limited to the Hanford Site tank farm and Hanford Site Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant Project.
Experience with advisory boards and/or regulatory entities is preferred.
