Summary
The Communications Specialist (Skill Level 3) supports communications initiatives within the Human Development Division (HDF) at NGA. This role is responsible for developing strategic messaging, supporting leadership communications, and assisting with the implementation of the Human Development Strategic Plan. The Communications Specialist works closely with leadership and stakeholders to create targeted communication products, develop presentations, and support workforce communication initiatives across the organization.
Job Description
Develop communication messages intended for distribution to the NGA workforce.
Draft senior-level messaging, including talking points and leadership communications.
Support the implementation of the Human Development Strategic Plan through coordinated communication initiatives.
Provide presentation support to office leadership, including message intent development and targeted communication materials.
Develop and design graphical concepts and visual communication materials to support messaging efforts.
Assist in the development and execution of communication strategies that align with organizational goals.
Update and maintain web-based content and communication materials as needed.
Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure messaging is consistent, accurate, and aligned with leadership priorities.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
At least 12 months demonstrated experience updating web content and using electronic publishing applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, or Adobe Acrobat Pro.
At least 12 months demonstrated experience using APA style writing and editing.
At least 24 months demonstrated experience in communications strategy development.
Skills & Abilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to craft messaging for diverse audiences, including senior leadership.
Experience developing presentations and visual communication materials.
Ability to manage multiple communication projects simultaneously.
Ability to collaborate with stakeholders and leadership to develop effective communication strategies.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, or a related discipline with demonstrated experience in communications strategy, messaging development, and digital publishing tools.
Computer Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite applications such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, or Adobe Acrobat.
Experience updating web content and managing electronic publishing tools.

Work is performed primarily in office, vehicles, and occasionally working group or conference settings, in all weather conditions, though mostly indoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in office settings and moderate in other situations.
