Hearing and Speech Nova Scotia (HSNS) provides audiology services to Nova Scotians of all ages, and speech-language pathology services to preschool children and adults. HSNS is funded by the NS Government to deliver integrated and standardized provincial services across 37 clinical sites, located in 26 communities. Nationally certified Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists, with support from Communication Disorder Technicians and Administrative Support Professionals, provide core services (prevention, diagnosis, and treatment), develop and monitor provincial clinical standards, and collaborate with partners to deliver a number of special programs (e.g., Autism, Stroke, Cochlear Implant). Established in 1963, HSNS works to prevent and reduce the impact of communication disorders for Nova Scotians.

We are accepting applications for a temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE) position of Communication Disorders Technician. A CDT works under the supervision of a speech-language pathologist and/or audiologist to provide clinical support for clients with communication needs (e.g., hearing loss, speech sounds, language). Additionally, the CDT coordinates, develops, facilitates, and participates in community-based, clinic, and/or virtual caregiver education and screening activities to raise awareness and promote early identification. The home base site is QEII-NSRAC. The successful candidate reports to the assigned Manager. Schedule to be determined.

Requirements:
-Successful completion of a Communication Disorders Technician formal training program or equivalent. A recognized diploma in a related field (e.g., OTA/PTA, ECE, CCA/LPN, etc.) from a college will also be considered. May also be currently enrolled in one of these programs if graduation is anticipated before start of employment.
-Successful completion of additional on-the-job training in speech, language and hearing services.
-Effective communication skills, including proficiency in written and spoken English. If English is not your first language further documents will be required.
-Flexibility in work schedule to provide evening/weekend services
-Flexibility to travel on occasion to attend continuing education, events and/or meetings
-Candidate will have to demonstrate current immunization and/or boosters at the end of the probationary period
-Effective interpersonal skills with a wide variety of clients and professionals
-Experience working with adults with communication disorders
-Computer literacy skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
-Demonstrated good organizational/workload management skills
-Demonstrated familiarity with the Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC) Communication Health Assistant Guidelines

Assets:
-Recent experience working with Audiologists and/or Speech-Language Pathologists
-At least 1 year of experience with adult speech, language, and swallowing caseload
-Ability to communicate in multiple languages
-Familiarity with adult communication disorders (aphasia, hearing loss, aural rehabilitation)
-Experience with provision of services via telepractice
-Experience supporting caregiver training services
-Lived experience with a communication difference
-Able to start immediately
