Job Description

Join CERN's Electrical Engineering team to support the operation and commissioning of its electrical transmission and distribution network. We are looking for a motivated electrical engineer with experience in power system testing and commissioning, and solid knowledge of High Voltage and Low Voltage installations and protection systems. You will play a key role in delivering new and upgraded infrastructure during CERN's Long Shutdown 3 and beyond.

Your responsibilities

• Lead or co-lead commissioning of HV and LV electrical systems including switchgears, transformers, circuit breakers, UPS, 48 V DC systems and protection relays.
• Develop commissioning procedures, test plans and risk assessments.
• Execute advanced commissioning tests covering protection logic, SCADA communication and interlocking functions.
• Diagnose commissioning issues and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate with project teams, operations and external suppliers.
• Produce commissioning reports and maintain CERN documentation.
• Support operational activities, including periodic network testing when required.
• This role includes team supervision responsibilities.

 

Your profile

• Proven experience in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Protection and Control, or Commissioning.
• Hands-on experience with HV/LV equipment, protection relays and power system operation.
• Practical experience in testing or commissioning electrical systems is an asset.

Skills

• Operation and maintenance of electrical circuits and networks.
• Construction, test and commissioning of electrical circuits and networks.
• Organisation, planning and control, including supervision of works.
• Ability to work independently and manage commissioning tasks within project frameworks.
• Strong problem-solving skills, communication abilities and field-work readiness.
• Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.

Eligibility criteria:

• You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
• You have a professional background in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) and have either:• a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
• or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.

• You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Job closing date: 10.03.2026 at 23:59 CET.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Job flexibility: Fully Onsite

Target start date: 01-April-2026

This position involves:

• Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays.
• Work in Radiation Areas.
• Interventions in underground installations.
• A valid driving licence.
• Stand-by duty, and work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organisation.
• Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain exposure conditions.

Given the occupational health risks associated with this position, the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.
