Commercial Electrical Technician
Location: Virginia Beach, VA
Job Type: Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire
Shift: Second Shift
Payrate: Starting at $27.00/hour depending on experience
Position Overview
A growing electrical services team is seeking an experienced commercial electrical professional to support installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities across active project sites. This role involves hands-on electrical work in commercial environments while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards.
The ideal candidate will have strong field experience, the ability to interpret technical drawings, and a solid understanding of commercial electrical systems and installation practices.
Primary Responsibilities:
Electrical Installation & Maintenance
• Install, maintain, and upgrade commercial electrical systems in accordance with industry standards and applicable codes
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, components, and related equipment
• Plan layouts and installation methods to support efficient operation and future service accessibility
• Perform conduit bending using hand, hydraulic, or mechanical methods as part of daily work activities
Blueprint Reading & Technical Work
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
• Utilize electrical tools and equipment including threaders, knockout punches, cable pullers, hammer drills, and compression tools
• Complete required documentation and job-related reporting accurately
Job Site & Safety Responsibilities
• Maintain clean and organized work areas, tools, and equipment
• Follow project schedules, attendance expectations, and production requirements
• Travel to local project sites as needed
• Safely perform work at heights using ladders and related access equipment
• Follow all safety procedures including lockout/tagout, confined space, and hazard communication protocols
Additional Support Activities
• Assist with mechanical-related troubleshooting involving HVAC, refrigeration, or similar systems when needed
• Participate in technical training and ongoing development programs
• Support team objectives while maintaining quality workmanship and professionalism on job sites
Required Qualifications:
• Journeyman-level electrical experience with progressive field responsibility
• Background in commercial electrical installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
• Minimum of 4 years of commercial electrical experience preferred
• Strong understanding of electrical codes, installation standards, and safe work practices
• Ability to bend conduit and perform field installations independently
• Experience using commercial electrical tools and installation equipment
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and workplace safety
Preferred Background:
• Experience diagnosing or supporting mechanical systems such as HVAC or refrigeration equipment
• Previous experience working in fast-paced commercial construction or service environments
• Familiarity with project-based electrical work and multi-site coordination
Training & Compliance:
• Completion of required safety certifications and compliance training
• Participation in company-sponsored technical and operational training programs
