Job Title: Commercial Electrical Technician (Journeyman Level)
Location: Virginia Beach, VA
Employment Type: Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire
Shift: Second Shift
Pay: Up to $39.00 per hour, based on experience
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Electrical Technician to perform installation, maintenance, and repair work on a variety of electrical systems. This role requires strong technical knowledge, the ability to interpret plans, and a commitment to safety and quality in a fast-paced environment.
Primary Duties:
• Complete a standard 40-hour work week with overtime as needed
• Install and modify electrical systems in compliance with local and national electrical codes
• Plan layouts to ensure efficient use of materials and allow for future maintenance access
• Interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical specifications to complete installations
• Perform troubleshooting and repairs on electrical systems and related equipment
• Apply mechanical knowledge when assisting with equipment such as HVAC or refrigeration systems
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including shop and job sites
• Travel locally to job sites as required
• Follow all assigned work schedules, attendance expectations, and job requirements
• Complete required documentation and project-related paperwork
• Work safely on ladders of various types and heights
• Follow all safety policies, including hazard communication, lockout/tagout, and confined space procedures
• Participate in training sessions and continued education as required
Skills & Competencies:
• Strong understanding of electrical installation practices across multiple phases of work
• Knowledge of current electrical codes and industry standards
• Ability to bend conduit using manual, mechanical, or hydraulic tools
• Experience using industry tools such as threaders, cable pullers, knockout punches, and power tools
• Ability to operate equipment including hammer drills, compression tools, and similar electrical tools
• Strong focus on safety, organization, and equipment care
Qualifications:
• Proven experience at the Journeyman Electrician level, including progressive responsibility
• Background in electrical maintenance, installation, and repair
• Experience with commercial electrical work preferred (minimum of 4 years)
• Familiarity with diagnosing mechanical systems such as HVAC, refrigeration, or manufacturing equipment is a plus
• Ability to perform conduit bending
Training & Requirements:
• Completion of required safety training
• Participation in company-specific process and technical training
