Geelong Regional Library Corporation (GRLC) is seeking a Collections Support Librarian to join our Collections & Information Services team. This is an opportunity to play a key role in maintaining, developing and improving high-quality physical and digital library collections that support our diverse and growing community.

 

This is a back of house role that work closely with frontline library staff to deliver excellent collection services, and supports our customers by responding to enquiries and requests.

 

Without set rostered hours, this role offers flexibility in work location and work hours (Monday-Friday).

 

What you will be doing 

Day-to-day collection maintenance tasks, including reporting, cataloguing, invoicing and ordering, ensuring accuracy and consistency across all systems

Supporting the Manager, Collections and Information Services to deliver on Library Plan and Collection Strategy actions

Working in collaboration with the Library Management System (LMS) Coordinator to support LMS-related initiatives, improvements and ongoing system maintenance

Actively assisting team members with support and guidance in the delivery of tasks and objectives

Contributing to the development and maintenance of policies, processes and procedures that ensure GRL delivers high quality and relevant physical and digital library collections

Creating and delivering readers' advisory and collection maintenance training for GRL staff

Working independently and collaboratively within a team

Proactively modelling, cultivating and maintaining, positive and professional team relationships across all GRL functions

Complying with organisational policies and procedures, and actively contributing to planning, review and continuous improvement activities that support organisational objectives

Contributing to the successful operation of the library service by assisting and supporting colleagues and senior leadership team to meet organisational objectives, goals and corporate plans

Maintaining and developing professional awareness through reading professional and relevant literature and attending professional meetings and seminars

Apply the principles of GRL Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity principles, work health and safety and collaboration within a work and team environment.

 

 

What we’re looking for

This specialist collections role is primarily behind the scenes, with communication directed toward internal teams and relevant external contacts.

Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline is essential.

Experience and demonstrated understanding of library collections is essential and the ability to apply it in a public library context will be highly regarded.

Ability and/or capacity to develop skills to successfully use Microsoft 365 and Library Management System tools to deliver on the main duties. 

Ability to support projects in a change environment, well-developed investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills and highly developed oral and written communication skills.

A practical problem-solving approach and strong attention to detail

Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders

A proactive mindset, curiosity, and willingness to keep learning in a fast-moving

Flexibility to work at multiple locations across the Geelong Regional Libraries network to support innovation and change.

This role has the capacity to offer flexibility. Hybrid work arrangement involves up to 2 days WFH, and the reduction to 0.8 FTE if better suited to an experienced applicant.
