Location: Zakynthos, Greece | Start Date: May 2026
BRING YOUR LEADERSHIP TO LIFE WHERE THE LAND MEETS THE SEA
You’re passionate about wild spaces, thrive in challenging conditions, and want to lead meaningful conservation work on the front lines. You’re ready to step into a leadership role where your field experience, mentoring mindset, and logistical know-how can drive real-world biodiversity outcomes.
At GVI Zakynthos, we’re looking for someone like you to help us protect vital Mediterranean ecosystems. You aren't just managing a base; you are the driving force ensuring that every sea turtle survey, every biodiversity count, and every participant’s journey contributes to a lasting legacy for Greece’s coastal heritage.
WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS
As our Coastal Program Manager, you are the bridge between scientific intent and boots-on-the-ground impact. Your leadership ensures that our research is rigorous, our team is inspired, and our presence in Zakynthos remains a beacon for ethical, high-quality conservation. You are the guardian of the participant experience and the architect of a smoothly running hub.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Leading the Mission: Oversee the planning and execution of sea turtle survey protocols, environmental cleans, and biodiversity surveys.
Empowering the Team: Line manage and mentor your staff, conducting performance reviews and coaching them to reach their full potential.
Commanding Operations: Manage the daily hub schedule and facilities, ensuring everything from equipment maintenance to accommodation meets world-leading standards.
Navigating Challenges: Act as the primary liaison with local authorities and stakeholders while managing day-to-day field logistics and health and safety.
Driving Results: Maintain financial health and data accuracy, ensuring all research is recorded and reported to maximize our conservation impact.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
Proven experience in managing field operations or coastal conservation programs.
Strong leadership skills with a natural ability to coach, mentor, and inspire a diverse team.
Logistical expertise and the ability to solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment.
A background in coastal or marine conservation (specifically sea turtle protocols is a plus).
Exceptional communication skills for liaising with partners and government bodies.
Bonus if you also have:
Emergency First Response or First Aid certification.
Previous GVI experience.
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU
Monthly Stipend
A unique and immersive conservation experience in the heart of the Mediterranean.
All meals and accommodation provided.
Visa support (where applicable).
Growth opportunities across our 17 locations.
A pathway into long-term conservation leadership.
A collaborative, purpose-driven culture.
Comprehensive in-house training and mentoring.
Emergency medical and travel insurance.
LIVING & WORKING CONDITIONS AT ZAKYNTHOS

Food: Local Mediterranean-style meals provided daily.
Getting Around: Primarily by foot or local transport to survey sites.
Fitness & Conditions: You should be comfortable with long hours in the sun and physical activity on sandy terrain.
