Supports day-to-day facilities operations and maintenance activities across corporate buildings and related systems.

Job Description

At General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada, we develop innovative products and solutions that make platforms smarter — enhancing security, safety, and operational advantage while protecting nations and strengthening communities. Here, your work matters. Every day, you’ll contribute to projects that strengthen national security and advance technological capabilities.

In this role, students support day-to-day facilities operations and maintenance activities across corporate buildings and related systems. You will gain hands-on experience assisting with routine maintenance, inspections, minor repairs, and service requests while working alongside certified trades and experienced facilities staff. This role provides practical exposure to facilities operations, work order systems, safety practices, and building systems in a professional environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with routine, unskilled to semi-skilled maintenance activities across facilities, including basic electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building tasks, under guidance and supervision.
• Support certified and licensed trades staff during inspections, maintenance, and repairs of building systems and equipment.
• Perform scheduled and emergency facility inspections and maintenance activities using established checklists; document findings and complete required logs and records.
• Complete assigned work orders and service requests—both routine and urgent—using the facilities work order system, following established priorities and timelines.
• Assist with building lighting inspections and relamping as required.
• Assist with furniture, fixture, and equipment (FFE) installations, relocations, and setups within and between buildings, including use of material handling equipment and company vehicles where authorized.
• Maintain accurate records related to completed work, inspections, and maintenance activities.
• Follow all corporate policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements related to facilities, life safety, and environmental practices.
• Support general facilities operations and perform other related duties as assigned.

Required

• Formally enrolled in a recognized co-operative education program.
• Enrolled in a program related to Facilities Management, Building Systems, Construction, Trades, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in building maintenance or facilities operations.
• Ability to use computers or mobile devices for work orders, email, and basic documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures and safety requirements.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively within a team.
• Good communication skills and a strong customer-service orientation.
• Valid provincial driver’s license.

Preferred

• Previous co-op, part-time, or summer experience in facilities, maintenance, construction, or a related field.
• Familiarity with basic hand tools and general maintenance tasks.
• Awareness of workplace safety practices and building codes.
• Interest in pursuing a skilled trade, technologist, or facilities-related career path.

It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations. You must be eligible to work in Canada.
