Position: CNC Turret Punch Setup & Operator
Location: Newport News, VA
Job Type: Full-Time, Contract-to-Hire
Shifts: 1st and 3rd Shift available (based on team needs; flexibility required)
Pay Rate: Up to $40.00/hour (based on directly related experience)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced CNC Turret Punch Operator to independently set up, program, and operate turret punch equipment for precision sheet metal fabrication. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain consistent production quality while ensuring safe and efficient machine operation.
Key Responsibilities:
• Set up CNC turret punch machines, including loading programs, selecting tooling, and preparing materials
• Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot tooling such as punches, dies, and forming tools; address issues like wear, misfeeds, and inefficiencies
• Conduct in-process inspections using precision measuring tools to ensure parts meet blueprint requirements
• Read and interpret technical drawings and optimize punch patterns for efficiency and accuracy
• Maintain accurate records of production output and quality inspections
• Work independently while coordinating with engineering, fabrication, and supervisory teams to meet production targets
• Organize workflow to support consistent throughput, efficiency, and high-quality results
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
• Knowledge of materials such as galvanized steel, aluminum, and stainless steel
• Proficiency in using precision measuring tools, including calipers
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
• Solid math skills, including geometry and trigonometry
• Ability to estimate timelines and manage workload effectively
• Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing tasks such as standing, walking, bending, squatting, and twisting for extended periods
• Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures, including heat and cold
Preferred (Not Required):
• Experience editing G-code
• Familiarity with CAD/CAM software
• Forklift operation experience
• Project management exposure
Equipment Experience:
• Amada EM3612ZRT 33-ton turret punch press with high-capacity tooling and automatic tool changer
• Amada EML 2515 AJE turret punch/laser combination machine
