Previously established and located in New Zealand since 2001, SailGP Technologies relocated to Southampton, UK in Spring 2024 at our new state of the art facility.
Summary:
SailGP Technologies is looking for a dynamic and motivated CNC Turner with Manual Machining experience, to join our high-performance team. This exciting role involves working at our Southampton facility and providing global event support to the Technical Team, reporting to the Machine Shop Manager.
The successful candidate will be responsible for programing, setting and operating CNC machined components, for the state-of-the-art F50 foiling catamarans. You will also provide on-site support for the league from a fully equipped mobile workshop at event locations worldwide. This role requires travel throughout the season.
Our UK facility boasts a brand new machine shop, featuring three Mazak CNC machines, a CMS ARES 5-axis machining center, a manual lathe, a manual milling machine, and TIG welding capabilities.
Responsibilities:
CNC, Facility and General Responsibilities
Programming, setting and operating Mazak CNC lathes using Mazatrol
Precision machining to tight tolerances, typically ±0.01mm
Read and interpret engineering drawings
Self inspection using hand tools
Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment
Responsible for self inspection to ensure all components are 100% correct and inline with standards
Machine components on manual lathe/milling machines
Tooling/fixturing for manual machines
Machine maintenance
Onsite- Event Based
To attend and operate from the mobile Machine Shop at global events
Fabrication and machining of components required for the SailGP league, to produce steel, stainless steel, aluminium & titanium components
General Engineering and mechanical assistance at events
Job-list orientated during regattas
General overview of technical aspects of the F50, ensuing the assets remain “one design”
Responsible for keeping part inventories and maintaining adequate stock of spares at all times
Overall responsibility for mobile machine shop setup and packdown, and assisting the wider team with tents and containers as required
Assist with launch and retrieval operations and daily on-water tasks when required
Background & Experience:
Minimum 3 years experience with programming, setting and operating Mazak lathes using Mazatrol
Proven experience in R&D work as well as small batch production
Demonstrated background in marine or high-performance engineering environments
Hands-on experience operating manual machining equipment, lathes, mills etc
Experience programming, setting and operating CNC Mill/Turns using Mazatrol an advantage
Previous involvement in event based operations desirable
Strong understanding of mechanical systems and assemblies, with the ability to repair precision components under time pressure
Understanding of tolerance and precious measurements
The ability to interpret detailed instructions and engineering drawings
Good problem solving and troubleshooting skills, particularly in a high pressure event environment
Highly organised with excellent time management skills
