Job Title: CNC Programmer / Machinist – Milling & Turning
Location: Newport News, VA
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay: $20.00 – $30.00+ per hour (based on experience)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to support precision manufacturing operations in a fast-paced production environment. This role involves programming, setup, and operation of CNC and manual equipment to produce high-quality components across a variety of applications.

Key Responsibilities:
• Review work orders, blueprints, and technical drawings (including GD&T) to determine machining requirements
• Program, edit, and operate 3-axis CNC milling machines using G-code
• Set up machines, including establishing offsets, tool registers, and reference points
• Perform machining operations such as drilling, tapping, turning, facing, and cutting
• Conduct first-piece inspections and verify dimensions using precision measuring tools
• Identify and resolve machining issues, including making program adjustments as needed
• Operate manual equipment including mills, lathes, drill presses, saws, and other shop tools
• Perform routine machine maintenance and manage tooling
• Monitor material levels and assist with inventory tracking and replenishment
Required Qualifications:
• At least 3 years of CNC machining experience
• Proficiency in G-code programming and editing
• Solid understanding of geometry and trigonometry as applied to machining
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
• Familiarity with quality processes such as First Article Inspection and PPAP
• Basic knowledge of inventory control practices
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as standing, bending, and reaching
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Preferred Experience:
• Background in sheet metal manufacturing
• Experience with CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks or similar)
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality standards
• Exposure to process improvement initiatives
• Experience operating manual mills and lathes
Equipment & Tools:
• CNC vertical machining centers (including models similar to Fadal VMC series)
• Manual machining equipment
• Precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and depth gauges
