Job Description
Join our precision manufacturing team as a CNC Press Brake Operator, at Modern Elevator an affiliate of ATTA Elevators, where you will play a critical role in fabricating high-quality sheet metal components for elevator systems. This position offers a dynamic environment for a skilled tradesperson dedicated to safety, precision, and craftsmanship.
Role Overview
As a CNC Press Brake Operator, you will be responsible for setting up and operating computer-controlled machines to bend, shape, and form metal workpieces according to strict engineering specifications. You will interpret complex blueprints to produce elevator car panels, entrances, and structural brackets with tight tolerances.
Key Responsibilities
• Machine Setup & Programming: Program CNC controls (Amada or equivalent) by inputting material thickness, bend angles, and positions. Select and install the correct punch and die tooling for each job.
• Precision Fabrication: Load and position metal sheets to perform required bends, ensuring all parts adhere to dimensional specifications and blueprint requirements.
• Quality Control: Conduct in-process inspections using precision tools like calipers, micrometers, and digital protractors to verify accuracy.
• Maintenance: Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, and basic troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to strict safety protocols, including the use of light curtains and lockout-tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Tooling Management: You are responsible for inspecting dies for cracks or "galling" (metal buildup) and ensuring tools are properly seated and stored to prevent expensive damage.
• Troubleshooting: Identifying and performing minor repairs or adjustments to machine parameters when bends are off-spec.
• Record Keeping: Recording production data (e.g., labor time completion, production flow interrupters etc.), using computerized systems
Secondary Fabrication & Machine Operation
• Operate Other Machinery: This includes running equipment such as shears to cut material to size, saws (band or cold saws) for structural steel, or ironworkers for punching and notching.
• Assist in Other Departments: You may be asked to help with MIG welding, deburring parts, or assisting assemblers and machinists during peak periods.
• Material Prep: Preparing raw materials for secondary operation by placing parts in production kits or performing part marking for traceability.
Qualifications & Skills
• Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of experience in CNC press brake setup and operation in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment.
• Technical Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.
• Mathematics: Strong numeracy skills, including the ability to perform calculations for bend allowances and angles.
• Physical Demands: Stamina to stand for 8–10-hour shifts and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. (23 kg) regularly.
• Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and a collaborative team mindset.
Work Environment
• Schedule: Typically, full-time day or afternoon shifts; must be flexible for overtime as production deadlines require.
• Safety Gear: Required PPE includes steel-toed boots, cut-resistant gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
