Description
The CNC Machine Operator will be responsible for operating a variety of CNC machines to support production needs at Rennscot. This includes bandsaws, vertical mills, 5-axis mills, turning centers, and mill-turn machines. Operators will primarily run pre-proven processes, assist in setups, perform basic inspections, and contribute to shop upkeep and machine maintenance. Candidates will be evaluated for either a L1 or L2 role based on experience and skill level.
Responsibilities
• Operate CNC equipment across multiple platforms (mills, lathes, mill-turn, etc.)
• Run pre-programmed processes while ensuring consistent part quality and process adherence
• Aid in machine setups, including installing and locating fixturing and workpieces
• Build and offset tools, and make minor adjustments as needed to maintain quality and efficiency
• Perform in-process and final inspections using hand metrology equipment (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.)
• Deburr and clean finished components, and maintain a clean and organized work environment
• Conduct basic machine maintenance and report equipment issues as needed
• Follow safety protocols and use required PPE for handling raw materials, heavy parts, sharp components, and delicate assemblies
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and collaborate with teammates to optimize workflows
• Step into other support roles as needed based on company demands; assist with CNC machine operation, post-processing additively manufactured parts, mechanical assembly, or logistics tasks (e.g., driving components to/from outside processing vendors)
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Basic blueprint reading and an understanding of GD&T
• Familiarity with hand metrology equipment and part inspection techniques
• Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining processes
• Ability to follow written work instructions and interpret technical documentation
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
• Experience building and offsetting tools, with the ability to make minor program adjustments
• Experience with CNC machine brands (ex. Haas, Okuma, GROB, Mikron) and controllers (Okuma OSP, Heidenhain, Haas)
• Hands-on experience with setup processes, including fixture installation and part locating
• Understanding of various manufacturing processes beyond machining
• Interest in automotive, aerospace, or space technology industries
Physical Demands & Work Environment
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting of materials up to 50 lbs
• Handling raw materials, heavy parts, sharp components, and delicate assemblies
• Working in an industrial environment with potential exposure to noise, dust, and lubricants
• Use of PPE, including eye protection, hearing protection, and appropriate gloves, as required
• Overtime may be available and occasionally required
