Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Cloud Engineer Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in designing and implementing solutions for migrating and sustaining large data discovery and analytics applications to the cloud using cloud-native technologies. This role will focus on customer engagement to deeply understand their applications and collaborate with engineering teams to ensure successful deployments.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct cloud readiness assessments and create migration plans to facilitate smooth transitions to AWS.
• Design and architect scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions on AWS, utilizing cloud-native technologies.
• Engage with customers to gather requirements, understand their application architecture, and provide tailored cloud migration strategies.
• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure the seamless deployment of applications and services.
• Configure and implement Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to automate builds, testing, and deployment in the AWS environment
• Provide guidance on best practices for cloud application design, deployment, and optimization including through use of Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Provide expertise and support for migrations from on-premises computing infrastructure to AWS cloud ensuring data integrity, minimal downtime, and high availability.
• Provide architectural guidance to development teams on operational issues involving database design and implementation.
• Provide SME recommendations for big data storing solutions, installations, and configurations while ensuring scaling needs.
• Support database analysis, architecture, design, development, administration and capacity/storage, implementation, and operations of multi-terabytes scalable enterprise end-to-end backend database systems.
• Experience modernizing and operating cloud computing environments supporting applications that leverage J2EE, Tomcat, Oracle RAC, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Aurora, ElasticSearch, OpenSearch ensuring data integrity, minimal downtime, and high availability.
• Provide expertise and support to architect cloud-native Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes utilizing AWS Step Functions, Lamda, and Eventbrite for improved automation and maintainability.
• Stay updated on emerging cloud technologies and industry trends to continually enhance our service offerings.
• Lead and mentor team members in implementing cloud solutions, ensuring adherence to architectural standards.
• Review security scans, accessibility audits, and performance testing to ensure full compliance with cybersecurity requirements; and, review results and provide mitigation or improvement plans where necessary and support the implementation of remediation activities to resolve and identified issues.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in cloud architecture, with a strong focus on AWS services.
• US Citizen; Ability to obtain a Public Trust security clearance.
• Proven experience in designing and implementing cloud-native applications.
• Strong understanding of application migration strategies and tools.
• Excellent knowledge of AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Aurora, Lambda, etc.) and best practices.
• Experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes) and serverless architectures.
• Strong skills leveraging IaC developing automated deployment and orchestrations solutions using TerraForm, CloudFormation, and other scripting tools.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with customers and teams.
• AWS Certification (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect) is highly preferred.
• Experience with large data search and discovery applications (e.g., OpenSearch) highly preferred.
• Experience supporting federal government organizations and missions is highly preferred.
• Ability to be onsite in Suitland Maryland 2-5 days a week
