About the Role
We’re looking for a Cloud Cost Engineer to own and optimize the cost efficiency of mainly our AWS infrastructure, from EKS clusters to storage, networking, and data services but your role may extend to Snowflake, Chronosphere, and more. You’ll combine engineering depth with financial insight, helping teams run scalable, reliable systems at the right cost. This role partners closely with SRE, Infrastructure, and Finance to improve visibility, automate savings, and embed FinOps principles into our cloud operations.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Cost Visibility & Insights
Build and maintain AWS cost dashboards (FinOut or CloudZero) with service-level and team-level breakdowns.
Implement and enforce cost allocation tagging policies across accounts and namespaces.
Develop real-time spend monitoring and anomaly detection
Optimization & Engineering
Identify and drive compute, storage, and network optimizations, including: ○ EC2 right-sizing and Savings Plans coverage
EKS cluster node mix optimization (Spot/On-Demand balance)
S3 lifecycle policies and Glacier transitions
EBS volume cleanups and resizing
RDS/Aurora instance class tuning
Partner with Capacity Engineering to enhance cluster auto-scaling, node pooling, and container rightsizing strategies.
Automate optimization tasks via Terraform or Cloud Custodian.
FinOps Enablement
Champion FinOps culture across engineering teams — shared responsibility for cloud efficiency.
Partner with Finance to translate cloud metrics into business KPIs (cost per customer, cost per request).
Develop internal documentation and runbooks for cost-aware engineering practices.
Qualifications
Required
4–6 years of experience in cloud infrastructure or platform engineering with strong AWS expertise.
Knowledge of EKS (Kubernetes) and its resource management internals.
Proficiency with Terraform or CloudFormation.
Skilled with AWS Cost Explorer, Athena, CloudWatch, and Billing/Usage Reports (CUR) or a third party tool like CloudZero or FinOut.
Hands-on experience optimizing
EC2, EBS, S3, RDS, EKS, and CloudFront costs
Savings Plans / Reserved Instances management
Spot Fleet / EC2 Auto Scaling / Graviton migrations
Programming experience (Python, Go, or Bash) for automation and data analysis.
Strong data analysis skills — SQL, Athena, or cost data exports.
Preferred
Experience deploying FinOut, CloudZero or AWS Compute Optimizer.
Familiarity with FinOps Framework principles (Inform, Optimize, Operate).
Exposure to AWS Budgets and Service Control Policies (SCPs)
AWS Certified Solutions Architect and/or FinOps Certified Practitioner
