Position Title: Retail Associate (Clothing Specialist)
Department: Clothing
Reports To: Store Manager
Classification: Part-Time, 30-35 hours
Pay Scale: $16.46 - $21.16 / hour
Location: Humane Society Thrift Store
Purpose of Position
This position supports the Humane Society of Central Oregon (HSCO) thrift store operations by managing the daily lifecycle of donated goods, with a focus on clothing, from initial receipt to the final sale. The Associate plays a critical role in driving store revenue while delivering exceptional value and service to our local community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position is expected to have knowledge of, or be able to obtain upon hire, fabrics, garment construction, notable clothing brands, and fashion trends to ensure the store maintains a high-quality selection.
Inspecting donated clothing for damage, stains, or excessive wear and deciding which items are suitable for resale.
Researching brands, vintage eras, or current trends to ensure items are priced accurately according to their market value.
Pricing clothing accurately and according to HSCO policy. Ensures that clothing racks on the sales floor are well stocked and organized.
Checking fitting rooms and returning items to sales floor.
Routinely complete product culls to remove expired clothing.
Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system and handle transactions accurately.
Accept and process donations from community members in a professional manner.
Collaborate with peers to maintain day-to-day operations of the store as required.
Adhere to all safety procedures, store policies, and OSHA requirements.
Collaborate with Management to implement sales strategies and achieve revenue goals.
Required Skills and Abilities
Ability to resolve personal scheduling issues amid a fluctuating work environment.
Ability to calculate sales figures and cash amounts efficiently and accurately.
Ability to bend, stoop, twist, and stand for long periods of time. Lifting requirements 50 pounds. Walk up and down a flight of stairs multiple times a day.
Basic knowledge of computers and apps used in the workplace.
Competent verbal and writing skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and coworkers.
Knowledge of HSCO goals, philosophies and mission desired
Qualifications
1-3 years retail experience. Prior clothing or second-hand retail experience preferred.
Valid Oregon Driver’s License and excellent driving record. (Not required for non-driving position; however, reliable transportation to and from work each day of the week is a must).
Work Environment
Work may be performed in noisy indoor and outdoor environments. You may encounter exposure to the elements, including severe cold and heat, be exposed to zoonotic diseases and aggressive animals that my result in scratches, bites, kicking or cause other bodily injuries. People assigned to this position may encounter high levels of stress. Position requires lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, stretching, kneeling, and standing for long periods of time, computer work, writing, and filing. You must have the physical and mental ability to safely perform the full range of duties of the position without creating a hazard to self or others. Must be able to work early/late hours, according to the needs of the department schedule, including weekends.
