Job Description

Do you want to shape the world of tomorrow and work on innovative projects? Then you're a good fit for us! We are a global engineering group with 15,000 employees and 140 locations worldwide. With our services, we are driving the topics of energy efficiency, climate protection and decarbonization and developing tech industries into new dimensions.

In the United States, the world of SEGULA Technologies Experts revolves around industries such as automotive, energy and life sciences. As an independent player, we support OEMs and suppliers with personal engineering services. Take advantage of new opportunities and take on exciting tasks and attractive positions with direct customer assignment.

We are seeking a highly skilled Advanced Closures Design Engineer to lead the development of world-class vehicle closure systems. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end design, integration, and validation of stamped sheet metal components, including doors, hoods, and tailgates. You will act as a technical pivot point between Creative Studio, Manufacturing, and CAE to ensure our vehicles meet the highest standards of structural integrity, surface quality, and functional durability.

Key Responsibilities

• System Design: Lead the design and development of complex closure assemblies, including inner/outer panels, reinforcements, and integrated hardware (hinges, latches, and strikers).

• Engineering Compliance: Ensure all designs meet strict packaging, structural, crashworthiness, and functional requirements.

• Surface & Aesthetic Integration: Provide technical feedback on Class A surface feasibility, resolving concerns related to gap & flush, surface distortion, and final aesthetic quality.

• Validation & Quality: Develop and manage the DVP&R (Design Verification Plan & Report). Support validation activities such as door-slam durability, corrosion testing, and hinge fatigue.

• Risk Management: Lead DFMEA updates, conduct issue resolution, and manage technical documentation throughout the program lifecycle.

• Manufacturing Feasibility: Ensure stamping feasibility—monitoring draw direction, springback, thinning, and splits. Provide direct technical input to suppliers during tooling reviews.

• Dimensional Control: Manage CAD clash/clearance, tolerance stack-ups, and GD&T to ensure vehicle-level dimensional targets are achieved.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate daily with BIW, Sealing, CAE, Studio, and Manufacturing teams to resolve design conflicts and optimize for mass production.

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field.

• Experience: 5–8 years of direct experience in Automotive Closures design.

• Technical Expertise: * Deep understanding of stamped sheet metal design and mechanism integration.

• Strong knowledge of automotive validation standards and DVP&R processes.

• Proficiency in GD&T and dimensional management.

• Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in CATIA V5/V6 or Siemens NX.

• Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and the communication skills necessary to bridge the gap between high-level design and shop-floor manufacturing.

• All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
